SrMi Posted June 18 Share #1 Posted June 18 Advertisement (gone after registration) Adobe has launched a new update that makes AI NR more convenient: no extra DNG file and instant tuning. More details about the update and warnings here: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/whats-new-in-lightroom-2025-06/
Advertisement Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Hi SrMi, Take a look here Adobe update: no more extra files for AI NR. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted June 18 Share #2 Posted June 18 (edited) Useful warnings about the extra data space. I rarely use Super Resolution, but use Denoise on lots of files I always delete the old files after the new ones are created. It will save that task. I guess that, as long as you want a notional raw file and non-destructive editing, Adobe has to store the extra data somewhere, which is inevitably bulky. I shall explore creating a TIFF from the newly denoised file to see if that is more efficient in editing speed and storage. (Most of the images I use Denoise on are shots of drama/dance performance - once processed and forwarded to the performers I have no need to keep the files for my own archive, but after a year or so convert them to full size jpgs to cut down storage) Edited June 18 by LocalHero1953
evikne Posted June 18 Share #3 Posted June 18 (edited) LR Classic and LR Desktop? Yet another new confusing name? I thought Classic WAS desktop. 👿 Edited June 18 by evikne

Only Lightroom Classic works with local files, all other versions work with the cloud.

What they probably mean is that it is the desktop version of the cloud application. But the name is (still) totally confusing.
LocalHero1953 Posted June 18 Share #6 Posted June 18 (edited) Since I had just imported and denoised images from the SL2-S, and still had the originals on SD card, I exported a couple of the edited images as JPGs and TIFFs, updated Lightroom, then repeated the process. The old Lightroom increased the file size of the #####-Enhanced.DNG file compared to the original by a variable amount: one file went from 43Mb to 51Mb, while the other went from 44Mb to 62Mb. Exported full size JPGs of the denoised file were 13Mb and 18Mb. Both TIFFs were 141Mb. The current LR made no change to the file size after denoise. With no new file being created, I assume all the changes are in XMP in the library. The JPGs were smaller: 9Mb and 14Mb, but the TIFFs were the same size as those created with old LR. So no real surprises; more efficient storage with the new process, but uncompressed TIFFs remain large, determined by resolution. I don't store XMP with the files, so I don't know how much extra space the non-destructive edit data will occupy in the LR catalogue.
