xveruskax Posted June 18 Share #1  Posted June 18 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Not long ago, I purchased a near mint 50mm Lux ASPH II (11728) and during a street photography event, my M10-P with the Lux attached slipped and hit the ground. The tip of the lens got a minor dent and a 2mm scratch in the metal. There’s another 2mm scratch a couple of centimeters away. Fortunately, neither the camera nor the lens suffered serious damage. Everything works perfectly. Just the cosmetic issues which seriously bother me. Options: 1) try to repair it? Don’t know how. Send it to a repair person like DAG? 2) try to source a replacement hood which I hear is near impossible? Anyone know where to ask? (Or go to Leica? They would likely send it off for repair which could take months. I have zero interest in this last option;  I use the lens frequently.) I know some will advise to let it go or offer other comments. Please only comment if you know if repair is viable or if you know where I can source a replacement hood. Thanks.    Edited June 18 by xveruskax
Advertisement Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Hi xveruskax, Take a look here Replacement hood for Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens (Leica M, Black, 2023 Version). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Patrick1955 Posted June 18 Share #2 Â Posted June 18 Leica Miami had replacement hoods for the Version 1 Lux - I looked as mine is mangled from a fall - but I just got used to it being made to look well used.
caf Posted June 18 Share #3 Â Posted June 18 Depending where you are located, Leica may replace it at no charge if it's still under warranty. In the US I had a 50 APO fall on asphalt during a roadtrip in the southwest US and got a dent on the hood. Leica replaced it at no cost as part of their 3-year warranty program. The lens didn't suffer damage beyond the dented hood, but Leica also CLA'd it and works better than when it was new. The M11 also got a couple of dings and needed the rangefinder needed a slight realingment. Leica also CLA'd it at no cost under warranty. The dings are still there though. These things are built like tanks. I kept using the setup the rest of that trip with no disruptions.
lct Posted June 18 Share #4 Â Posted June 18 There are no replacement hoods for built-in hoods AFAIK. Only a repair can be envisioned i suspect but i have no experience with this lens. I would ask Leica.
