William Jones Posted January 9, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am trying to use R8/DMR with Metz 40 Mz3. My problem is : the flash works OK, however the R8 shutter does not operate at 1/250 sec. It seems to ignore the flash and closes seconds later- presumably measuring ambient light. Is there a way around this? I use the Auto setting of the flash and A on the R8. Help please.

dugby Posted January 9, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2008 Which SCA adaptor are you using on the 40MZ3 ? In particular you also need to state the Mod level of the SCA.

psquared Posted January 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2008 With the R8 in A mode, it will choose the shutter speed that would be applicable without a flash, whether you're firing a flash or not. Try the M (manual) exposure with the shutter speed at 1/250 or longer. The flash should be in the Auto mode as you have set it. Peter
hunterits Posted January 9, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 9, 2008 William: Peter is correct. I have the R8/DMR but with a Metz 32-Z-2 and SCA 3501. Setting in manual works fine. Also if the TTL switch is activated, I can get the system to work in "P" mode most of the time. The shuttle speed indicator in the view finder must show 1/250th of a second otherwise it will not expose properly. Sometimes I have to depress the shutter part of the way and then release before it will set a display of 1/250th of a second on "P" mode. However, manual always works fine John
leicamr Posted January 23, 2008 Share #6 Posted January 23, 2008 The R8 'A' mode will set the shutter speed anywhere from 30 Secs up to 250th second assuming that flash gun is ready to fire. This is how the R9 'A' mode functions when the flash is used in TTL mode when using film. If you require to 'fix' the shutter speed due to poor lighting, then manual is the mode to use. I sure hope that the R10 has high speed TTL flash metering (As per Nikon D3) Regards Mark
