I have the S too but the Red Dot is blacked out.

The white script has always put me off the standard SL version.

Frankly I think its an eye sore too.

Total bad taste

My SL2 screams unnecessarily, but unlike my tastefully discreet M bodies (M10M, M10-R BP, and M(9)M), it hides out a lot in my car with the big honkin’ 24-90 attached, and rarely sees other people.  Admittedly, if there had been an SL2-P version when I bought it, I would have preferred the subtle variant, but the Ms remain the attractive children.

I was all set to black out the billboard script on my 601 when it arrived but somehow never got around to it. Since then, the more it's wormed it's way into my heart, the less it's bothered me.

I have black tape on mine, the old classic. The vast majority of people have no idea what it is. It is not a Leica shape that even photographers tend to recognize. I think the only people who recognize it are other people who have it. This is even more true with a Sigma lens, but even with the Leica ones. I agree about the script though...I find it pretty tasteless. I put the tape on on day one. I did the same with the S cameras. I have not bothered on the SL2S, mostly because now I can quickly tell them apart. I tend to hate branding in general, and I definitely prefer clothes and other things without visible branding. I don't want to be a walking advertisement for anything, even if I like that thing.

Yes I`ve done that before.

Always worried about it taking the paint off though should ,for some reason, I need to remove it.

I have not had an issue, but at least that is a fairly easy issue to fix. I think Leica's modern paint in the recessed areas of the insignia is more durable than it was in the classic cameras.

The Leica logo was large on the R3, R4-7, R8-R9 and now the SL series.  I am not bothered by it.

Use a piece of black gaffer tape. It looks like duct tape, but its adhesive is much friendlier to paint/other surfaces - it's made to be peeled off eventually. It might seem like overkill to buy a roll of the stuff just cover your camera's logo, but you'll end up using it for a lot of other tasks. Like Bundaberg rum, you can cook with it and clean with it, too.

I think I used a black roll of MT tape, which is Japanese washi masking tape. Great stuff. They had some 18% grey tape too, I have a couple of rolls of each and I use it for packaging prints and all sorts of tasks. It leaves a lot less residue than the masking tape you get from the hardware store.

I think some photo store sold it. I can't remember where I got it specifically.

Any low-residue tape should work. Real gaffer tape (not duct tape!), camera tape, washi tape, real painter's masking tape. The main issue with these is that you'll often find fake equivalents that will pull paint on removal. It's best to buy them from a specialized supplier, or a craft/fabric store for washi tape.

I use black electrical tape. It comes-off easily, and any residue can be removed with isopropyl alcohol. I have no idea what kind of tape electricians use in other parts of the world, so due diligence is advised.

Is it just the Leica name that bothers you? Every camera maker puts the brand on the front don’t they?

Im personally not ashamed to own a Leica.

Not that; rather that the huge white script and bright red logo seem garish, unlike the more elegant lettering, for instance, for Hasselblad on the X2D.
