Hi everyone, I am having so much fun with my Q3, it is such a great camera and I just love the results.

I would like to take usability further and try using CPL and ND filters on the camera, does anyone use their Q3 in this way, if so what do you use (UK based) and have you come across any issues?

The filters I am contemplating using are Urth 49mm Plus Magnetic essentials kit.

All feedback and or comments welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

I have the 49mm screw in Urth+ Essentials kit and have replaced the CPL and UV with Marumi Exus filters. The Marumi CPL is more neutral and slightly faster, while the Urth ND8 / ND1000 are reasonably neutral and the Urth ND64 is less neutral. The build quality of the Urth filters is good but not as good say B&W or Marumi Exus.

If you’re going to use a CPL might as well get a 62mm and a step-ring 49-62. unless you’re using the circular lenshood this would be my recommendation.

That's a good idea, my Sigma 20mm DGDN C is a 62mm filter thread so I could just get one set of filters and use for the Q3 and SL2+20mm. Thanks for the suggestion.

Game changer for me. I like to shoot wide open and I am getting into the habbit of only bringing the Q on some trips.

I use the Urth magnetic set along with the polar pro hood, which allows for quick changes, Also trhe hood, when open, works well as a visor and can be rotated to basicaly cover any angle.

I’ve been using the Shortstache Everyday Filter on my Q3 – it’s a nice combo of a CPL and a light mist filter. I really like the look it gives, especially for street and travel shots. It helps cut reflections and boost color without overdoing it, so it stays on my camera about 80% of the time.

I am using a PolarPro hood on a hinge to be able to access the CPL filter without removing the hood.

I haven’t tried ND filters on the Q3 43 yet, but I did use them on my Q2 for long exposures, and it handled them beautifully. I imagine the Q3 would be just as good for that kind of work.

I use the NiSi M75 filter kit on my Q3 (previously on my Q2). It’s a super compact set and works brilliantly! Circular polarizer and, of course, multiple ND options.

The best ND filters I’ve used are from Breakthrough Photography.  They really are the most neutral and very well made.  I use their polariser as well.  Thoroughly recommended and they fit well with the Q28 hood and cap.  Not sure about the Q43, which I believe needs a thinner filter mount.
