vha Posted June 2 Share #1 Posted June 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) I realised that i like to think of lenses in pairs, not certain when it started, but I remember having the 35mm Nokton 1.2 and a 50mm elmarit 2.8 in the mid 2000s, and for the last years a 35mm and 50mm summilux pre asph (50 lux replaced with 50 rigid now). Any month now I had my 24mm Elmarit-M for two years, my brain have tried to fint a 50mm to pair it with, something more modern, with same contrast and sharpness, similar signature as much as a 50 match a 24 But since i have no reference for modern leica glass, i look for suggestions. I have a M10 Monocrhom at the moment, perhaps a M2 or M4 in a year or three. I really like the 24mm, strange it does not get much attention ?
Advertisement Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Hi vha, Take a look here A fifty for my Elmarit-M 24mm asph 2.8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted June 3 Share #2 Posted June 3 Not sure what you mean by Elmarit 50. If you mean the Elmar-M 50/2.8 from the nineties, it would match well your Elmarit 24/2.8 asph that comes from the same period.
vha Posted June 4 Author Share #3 Posted June 4 I mean the 90s one, or Elmar-M 1:2.8/50mm according to a red book i have. That one I had a few times, preferable with at M6, since it collapse safely with a film M. Did not like the 60s one, but could be that the copy i had did not age well. Not convinced that the 90s Elmar-m matches the 24mm asph 2.8, but I never had them side by side, the sharpness and tonality of the 24 asph at least on my M10M looks more modern, and “more of it” perhaps? But an interesting through, it could be a time for buing the same lens for the 4th time 🙂

The Elmarit 90/2.8 v2 could work. The Macro-Elmar 90/4 too. Depends on what you consider "modern" though. To me the Elmarit 24/2.8 asph is a kind of mix of classic and modern lens as far as IQ is concerned. Same as the Elmarit 21/2.8 asph sort of. A more "modern" 24 would be my Elmar 24/3.8 asph. Both are sharp but the Elmar 24/3.8 has a bit more acutance. More "clinical" as they say.

Three lenses for consideration come to mind for me without paying APO tax, 50mm Summicron v4/v5, 50mm Summilux ASPH or modern 50mm Elmar f2.8. All sharp with good contrast. adan Posted June 4 Share #6 Posted June 4 The basic 50 Summicron-M (v. 5, early 90s right up through today) will be the 50 best matched with the 24 Elmarit's 1990s "clinical" imaging. The 24 is the lens for which the term was "invented" by Leica lens tester Erwin Puts. 😜 Just that little extra touch of clarity and contrast compared with the 4-element 50 Elmar-M, as well as more solid build (the collapsing feature of the Elmar-M requires some compromises in stiffness). And the Elmar color is faintly greener than the 24, while the Summicron is slightly more neutral. But it is a close call.
lct Posted June 4 Share #7 Posted June 4 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I realise you were referring to the Elmar-M 50/2.8, not 90mm lenses sorry. As suggested by @adan above, a Summicron 50/2 v4 or v5 could match too but my favorite would be the Elmar-M 50/2.8 personally. Matter of taste i guess and i did not use the Elmarit 24/2.8 asph for a long time so my memory may fail me. Edited June 4 by lct
vha Posted June 11 Author Share #8 Posted June 11 Thank you all for input and ideas, great to have other thoughts on a topic. think a friend of mine have a Cron v5 that i could borrow, borrowing tends to be more budget friendly, at least if you dont like the lens
Kiwimac Posted June 12 Share #9 Posted June 12 If your main use is on the Monochrom bodies, the extreme detail and contrast rendered by the 50 Apo would suit well, although they are fiercely expensive if you want Leica rather than Voigtlander. I think the main reason 24 doesn’t get much love is that there are four 28mm options and no 24 frame lines.
kiwidad Posted June 13 Share #10 Posted June 13 Summarit-m 50mm f2.5 is a nice compact contrasty and sharp lens. If you go for one make sure you but it with shade.. those shades are crazy money! Works very nicely only M10M and M11
