Hello everyone. New here and just looking for some answers on flash and the Leica M6 TTL. So everything I read is extremely complicating and it's making me want to not buy a flash for it. I was trying to go cheaper and not spend a bunch of money on the Leica SF 20 but I don't see allot of options with TTL.

my question is: until I get the hang of the setting can I just put the flash in TTL mode and shoot normally or am I just wasting film?

I don't want to buy a $500 flash and never use it cause everything comes out bad. Manual mode doesn't seem impossible but definitely a learning curve.

any input or help on what to do is much appreciated!!

Just buy an old Metz SCA flash with Leica adapter (3501 if memory serves ) put it on the camera set the shutter time to flash and set the ISO on the flash and fire away.
I like the 32 CT7.

Hi Tony

I use M6 TTL with SF24-D and SF58 flashes.  The TTL aspect works brilliantly with both, for my uses I've seen noticeably better exposures than with the flash on 'Auto'.    But SF58 is extremely slow to recycle the battery between shots. (no problem with 24D, it's an amazing little flash) .

So definitely worth it if you plan to use flash a lot, and also very simple - it's the camera that does the work in TTL mode so don't overthink it .

Does the Sf20 not work with ttl then?   Auto mode is also very easy and effective if you go that route

I'll second @jaapv's recommendation. After trying numerous lashes over the years, the old Metz ones seemed the most versatile, were simple to use, and produced good results.
