Advertisement Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Hi jakontil, Take a look here Airport security swabbed. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gbealnz Posted May 29 Share #22 Posted May 29 Travelled last week, and had my hand-checked film (cassettes only in a clear plastic "zip-lock" bag) swabbed on both occasions. No real drama. Also had the backpack with all the gear (electronics, cameras, medications) go down the Oh-Oh route, but on both occasions it was explained that cameras give "different readings" because they are quite "dense", and once they see it is camera equipment they are/were happy. While I love shooting film, it's almost at the stage of " just being too hard".
Kiwimac Posted May 30 Share #23 Posted May 30 I’ve certainly had the inside of my camera bag swabbed. The one that gave me kittens was arriving in Sydney from SEA and being randomly picked for a personal swab of hands etc. Normally, fine. Go for it. This time, however, I’d just come from Laos where I’d been photographing a mine clearance project for the NZ government. Once mines are found (or other UXO such as bombs from aircraft) they don’t move them, they pack sandbags around them and use C4 to detonate them in situ. Whilst chatting with the crew, one of them handed me a chunk of C4 to look at. We actually played catch with it for a few minutes. Then I got some shots of a white phosphor bomb being blown up (quite spectacular) and thought no more about it. Until security wanted to swab me….! I did tell them in advance but they found nothing. Fortunately.
ronaldc Posted May 30 Author Share #24 Posted May 30 (edited) Wasn’t expecting such many replies, great to hear everyone’s experiences. i know it’s the whole point of the BP to Patina, but I’d like those scratches to come from me and not someone else, I think the sooner I get covered in more I won’t notice, walking outside every time I look down I think of that bad experience, at least I did catch the camera from getting dunked hard onto the table, would have knocked the range finder out of Wack Edited May 30 by ronaldc
