leica_kh Posted May 19 Share #1 Posted May 19 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was looking into the Eyelead sensor cleaning kit as recommended by the folks at Leica Miami but it appears it’s no longer around. I’ve seen other options but it’s not the gel pad but more of like a wipe on a stick. Would anyone recommend any of the newer options? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Hi leica_kh, Take a look here Sensor cleaning?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jean-Michel Posted May 20 Share #2 Posted May 20 You will need to clean the sensor fairly frequently. It is not difficult, nor dangerous to your sensor if you follow some basic instructions. With the exception of just using a blower, you will want to disable the IBIS before using swabs There are a few threads on the subject already. My method, used from since I "went digital": 1: buy and use a good quality blower, most dust will decamp after that 2: if there are still dust spots, I use an Arctic Butterfly; see the VisibleDust website: https://visibledust.com/products.php I have an older plain model and it works very well; I don't bother disabling the IBIS for that as it is a gentle job. 3: if that does not work, I use their swabs, with or without their liquid 4: I have their loupe which is useful but not essential I have never used any there product, so have no idea if those work as well or better. Nick Rains from Leica Australia has a video on the subject:
jaapv Posted May 20 Share #3 Posted May 20 I would not use a swab without fluid. It increases the risk of ( micro) scratching The exception being the second swab in the Green Clean wet and dry swab system which is one of the safest ways to wet clean your sensor. Paul2660 Posted May 20 Share #4 Posted May 20 By disabling IBIS, I assume you are wet cleaning with the camera powered on which locks down the sensor platform? Thanks Paul

The recommended Eyelead sensor cleaning stick always seems to be out of stock at Leica Store Miami dot com. However I was told by store personnel to pre order the kit and sure enough they shipped to me within about ten days.

Eclectic Man Posted May 22 Share #8 Posted May 22 I recall that in the UK, the Leica store in London offered to clean sensors for free once a year. It might be worth checking if similar services are still available from there or elsewhere.
