The latest firmware version v3.1.1 for the Leica SL3 and SL3-S introduces significant new features and improvements, further enhancing the user experience. Here are the download links and the changes:

New:

  • The requirements of Lot6/Lot26, Regulation (EU) 2023/826 on ecodesign are supported
    With this firmware update, compliance with the latest EU ecodesign regulations is ensured, making Leica devices more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.
  • New video formats for C4K and C6K
    The camera now supports additional video formats in C4K and C6K, offering even more flexibility and high-quality video recording options, perfect for professional applications.

Improvement

  • Access to the function Headphone Volume is now additionally available via the menu Audio in the Video section, and via the FN button
    The Headphone Volume function can now be accessed not only through the Audio menu in the Video section but also via the FN button, making it easier to adjust audio levels while recording.
  • The function Magnification can now be activated and deactivated by pressing the joystick
    The Magnification function can now be quickly activated or deactivated by pressing the joystick, making it easier to zoom in and out for fine-tuning focus.
  • When making changes to the icon assignments in the Control Center, the function assignment list will open with the currently assigned option presented in the list as the starting position
    This improvement allows faster adjustments by displaying the currently assigned option in the list, saving time during the setup process.
  • The former menus Film Style and Video Style (accessible via JPG Settings) were integrated into the Leica Looks menu, and their menu items will now be accessible via the Main Menu
    The Film Style and Video Style menus have been consolidated under the Leica Looks menu, providing quicker and more intuitive access to various style presets.
  • The firmware update process was optimized. Following a firmware update, all previous settings will remain unchanged, and the dialogue “Do you want to save profiles on SD card?” will no longer be displayed. A battery charge level of around 25% will now suffice for starting the update process
    The firmware update process has been streamlined, ensuring that settings are preserved and simplifying the update procedure by requiring only 25% battery charge to start.
  • Electronic shutter speed 1/16000 s will now be available for P/A mode
    The electronic shutter speed of 1/16000 s is now available in Program (P) and Aperture Priority (A) modes, allowing for more precise exposures, particularly in bright lighting conditions.
  • The function AF-ON can now be combined with the functions Eye/Face/Body Detection and Animal Detection
    The AF-ON function can now be combined with Eye/Face/Body Detection and Animal Detection, enabling faster and more accurate focusing, especially for dynamic or moving subjects.

Error Correction

  • An icon with an asterisk will be displayed alongside the User Profiles icon in the Control Center and the sidebar if settings were modified after profile activation
    The User Profiles icon will now be marked with an asterisk if settings have been modified after a profile has been activated, making it easier to track changes.
  • In case of a joystick assignment, the function AF-ON will now be saved to the user profile
    The AF-ON setting for joystick assignments is now saved in the user profile, ensuring that all customized settings are retained after restarting the camera.

While updating the firmare on my SL3-S the camera froze and turned off, and it does not want to start anymore. This is atrocious how Leica handles these updates, I even found an instruction to update the firmware using an SD card and still the same thing, this is horrible that apparently now the only solution is to send the camera to the service ....
