Hi all.

I just updated the SL3 to latest firmware with no issues so far. I didn't even have to reset camera and then re-import Profiles like I did with the last FW update,  but I need to test this more. I'm not sure what you call this mode, but it is when you look through the viewfinder and you see top menu, side menu, bottom menu and small Histogram in upper left of frame. I see that the histogram changes when you move the camera around, but if you adjust exposure it does not seem to affect the histogram. Am I missing something? I would think that adjusting shutter/f/stop would show if you are clipping highlights/shadow and are within a good place exposure wise?

BTW- I've not used the histogram before playing around with it today in this mode. I know...RTFM but in the short term, any ideas?

Thanks Jonathan

what exposure mode are you in? I guess in P will stay the same as it will automatically adjust to balance out. auto iso also may reflect and balance the histogram in regard to aperture and shutter speed…

100% of the time in manual mode. thanks.

Do you have exposure simulation on for M mode? P-A-S-M instead of P-A-S?

SrMi,

i have mine set to PAS, no M. I remember setting this that way on suggestion from Leica Australia. Haven’t looked at that setting since last June when I got the camera. Embarisingly, I can’t even remember what the hell this setting does. I guess it really is tome to visit manual again

By changing the setting to PAS instead of PASM you have removed exposure simulation from manual mode. I believe you misunderstood Nick from Leica @(37 minutes) where he explains this is for when you are using flash. If you change it back to PASM it will work as you expect it to.

Today I changed my Live View settings from PAS to PASM.

When I initially set up the camera, I used a lot of the information from Nick at Leica Australia and it so helpful. I spent many sleepless nights watching his video on the SL3 even before I got the camera. I set just about everything up per his recommendation and along the way adjusted some settings that now work well for me shooting exclusively in Manual mode.

To be honest, I was never 100% certain what the PAS(M) did, so I just used PAS. Until now. It is a different experience to say the least! Before PASM and using PAS, the camera worked the way I thought: adjust exposure using meter at bottom of frame, the end. With PASM enabled, the first thing I noticed was my viewfinder was really dark. But as I adjusted my exposure (shutter speed and aperture) the viewfinder reflected those changes, and when the exposure meter at bottom of frame was "correct" the viewfinder looked the way it normally did in just PAS mode only.

I see this as another very useful way to set exposure: visually through viewfinder with a little confirmation from the meter at bottom of frame. I need to wrap my head around this a bit more to see if this is the way forward for me as far as exposure hygiene, if you will.

Thank you jiggyb21 and SrMi. I don't know if this thread somehow dovetails into all the threads about viewfinder issue, to dark to light.

Jonathan

PS- I also dug bak into the manual and even found answers to questions I didn't even know I had, most GPS/Leica Fotos related.

PAS mode disables exposure simulation in the EVF/LCD when in manual mode, keeping the displays equally bright regardless of the final output.

PASM enables exposure simulation in manual mode, and the image in the EVF/LCD reflects more of what you will see in the final output.
