This looks absolutely gorgeous.  However, this is probably the last camera anyone going on a safari would take with them.  For a safari you need a camera with wildlife focus detection and anything from a 400mm upwards so the name Safari is STUPID.

🥵 I took M4,M6,M8, M9 and M240 cameras on Safari regularly, with lenses up to 800 mm... Worked quite well.

Why hate on this option, that's all it is, an option...

I really don't understand the 'Hate' either.

The Safari cameras - just like the Gold / Grey / Navy / Hammertone / Metallic Red etc. versions - aren't quite my thing but, at the same time, I do find the Olve Green paint and leatherette finish to be very attractive and can easily understand why many folks will be more than happy to buy one.

It's simply another colour option to be offerred alongside Silver-Chrome, Black Paint and Black-Chrome (or whatever it is nowadays). What is the problem with that? Why the negativity? Grow up, please, children.

Philip.

OOI do we know when the cameras will hit the retailer's shelves?

Already out there. Leica.com has them now.

Picked up this beauty this morning at the Leica Store Amsterdam. Already had the Summilux 1.4/35 in Silver.

Awesome. I assume that is not the strap provided with it?

You assume right. There is a standard black strap included. I already had this one, looks much better than the black one. Too bad there wasn't a charger included anymore.

It’s already showing as sold out here in NZ.

Leica Melbourne has 3 units left as far as I know. Sydney and Chadstone sold out. Sydney told me they're not sure when they're going to get again.

I luckily picked mine up. Feel a bit shitty for paying $1.5K over being in AUS compared to 3rd party US and HK sellers are selling for less but given Australian Consumer Protection and the extra 12 months warranty for buying local, I'll take that as being worth it and just enjoy the camera.

Haven't unboxed mine yet as I literally dropped home and then went away for the weekend but Monday morning is my unbox day.

Here in Japan, they only allow us to make a reservation for now. The official release date is May 17th, for reasons unknown to me, so I’ll have to wait an extra week. I’m also paying around 1,500 USD more than the black/silver version—probably due to the weak yen.

Are you serious, no charger since when?. I got one with my M11M. That's really taking the piss IMO.

I don't buy special editions, a self imposed decision given the price premium of some, but still admire them.
Congratulations on your new camera, it looks beautiful and I wish you much joy and good light.

It looks different shades of green compared to the campaign advert, a bit too dark for my liking.  I am too lazy to pick mine up and opt for delivery and it's being held up by DHL for 2days now because they don't deliver over weekends. 🥲

The last one that had a charger was the M11-P. I bought the M11 Glossy paint and that had the same packaging as the M11-P Safari (smaller) and both didn't include a charger. In the store they told me it's because of the new EU-rules and that they can sell me a separate one.... I bought the M11 Glossy in Wetzlar and the M11-P Safari in Amsterdam. So maybe outside the EU there is still a charger included ?

Normally EU directives and directives by other authorities in major markets will be applied worldwide by manufacturers as it is too costly to vary the product by market. The most rational thing to do is to make it compliant with all markets you wish to sell in.

https://commission.europa.eu/news/eu-common-charger-rules-power-all-your-devices-single-charger-2024-12-28_en

This rule is not very well thought through for cameras as it is normal practice to charge a battery at home whilst using the camera elsewhere. So it forces the user to buy an expensive extra charger unless there are inexpensive third party ones on the market. There are adjustable universal ones but they are a bit fiddly to use.

I don’t know for sure how many NZ got but it was described as “we might get a couple” by someone in a position to know. I’m not sure if he meant literally 2 units or merely a small number.

I was actually in the shop when they ordered one from the importer and I asked if I could have it and indeed that will be the case.
