Andrea.d Posted April 30 Share #1 Posted April 30 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good morning, my name is Andrea and I am writing from Rome. I tried cleaning the sensor of the M11 monochrom, trying to clean it with swabs and Eclipse liquid, in both directions (right-left and vice versa) I noticed that some microscopic fluff remained attached (seen with a x40 monocular), so I deduced that the surface is not perfectly smooth, but has a roughness. This "theory" was tested by cleaning it in one direction only: after a couple of tests I found that the sensor must be cleaned from right to left, so it remains perfect. If any of you have had the same "problem" let me know. Thanks and regards, Andrea

Andrea.d Posted April 30 Author Share #3 Posted April 30 (edited) Sì, ho fatto il test con un rivenditore Leica a Roma, e ho usato tamponi e liquido Eclipse e VSGO. The "fluff" is not visible to the naked eye, only under very high magnification Edited April 30 by Andrea.d clarification
jaapv Posted April 30 Share #4 Posted April 30 You must swipe, turn the swab over and then go in the other direction; the sensor surface is just coated glass like a filter, actually it is a filter, and has no direction.
Andrea.d Posted April 30 Author Share #5 Posted April 30 (edited) Sono d'accordo, ma me lo ha confermato anche un noto tecnico/riparatore Leica di Roma. It's very strange, but three of us had the same situation. If other users have encountered this situation, let me know. Thanks a lot Edited April 30 by Andrea.d clarification
jaapv Posted April 30 Share #6 Posted April 30 I've been cleaning sensors under a surgical microscope and have never seen this. Not on the M11 though.

jaapv Posted April 30 Share #8 Posted April 30 I find it hard to imagine that the IR filter on the M11 is made of sandpaper - and one-directional at that.

IR cut filters, back in the day of the M8, were “toothed” but it was microscopic. Somewhere here there was a discussion on it many years ago. When cleaning with a microfiber cloth no remnants were left behind that I remember.
jaapv Posted April 30 Share #10 Posted April 30 That is one sensor that I used to clean under the surgical microscope - no remnants.
Photoworks Posted May 1 Share #11 Posted May 1 questo mi ricorda che devo pulire il mio sensore 😉 Just as a reminder. The Aeroclipse Fluid does get old. I had a travel cleaning kit with me, and I had a challenge in getting the cleaning without streaks. I switched to the Eclipse, and all was good in one go. Tseg Posted May 1 Share #12 Posted May 1 I know the instructions from Photographic Solutions advises to put the Eclipse solution on 1 side of the swab, drag it one way, then pull back with the dry side the other way. I only know this because for the first time I swabbed my M11 2 days ago after realizing there was a slight smear on the middle of the sensor from the factory. There were also some additional spots near the top of the sensor showing in my sky shots that got me to inspect initially. One back and forth swipe and my sensor became immaculate. From the day I received it the aero eclipse left streaks! Not so with the eclipse!
