They had a classic M6 listed "like new" for a price that I couldn't pass up. I normally deal with KEH and Roberts Photo for used stuff.

I'll post pictures when I get it. I'll be up to 2 M6's. a M-5 and M3SS. I think that'll do me 😁

I have bought several high-ticket items: camera bodies, lenses and accessories from MPB. Always been a good experience. Never had to return anything, so I can't speak for that, but I did sell them a lens once.

I recently got a summilux 24mm from them, fast shipping, item exactly as described, no complaints at all.  Legit and reliable company from everything i’ve read.

Good to know. It's actually the same production year and chrome body as my 1st M6 I bought a few weeks ago.

It might be boring buying 2 of the same color and model but I'm wanting a "primary" and "backup" M6.

I bought an SL 2 in 'excellent' condition and it had a very dirty sensor. I was iffy about the camera anyway, so returned it to MPB.

They tried to persuade me to keep it. Not a great experience.

My reading is that MPB's performance varies by country. I've only had positive experience in the UK, but I'ver heard mixed stories from US.

My thoughts too, in the UK they have been spot on over the years.

The silver M6 is such a great looking camera 👌

I can also vouch for the UK MPB operation. I've bought and sold (for the convenience rather than the prices offered) a number of items and the service has been excellent. The one time I had a problem (a Hasselblad XCD lens that I didn't think was up to snuff) they organised a return and refund without any quibbles or delay.

I was browsing their Leica and Hasselblad stuff the other day (mainly curiosity rather than serious buying intent) and some of the prices are extremely keen for some M lenses and XCD lenses. Looks like the secondhand market is very much a buyer's market at the moment.

It must be, I was actually looking to see if they still had a Leica M5 since I'm wanting a 2nd one of those to go with 1 I just had DAG service that I bought used a few months ago.

This one is tempting too

I can't justify owned 3 M6's and if I had seen that before I bought the chrome 1 I would have bought it. I was wanting 2 of them to have a "shooter" and "collector" piece. I've been collecting Nikon film SLR's for years and own dups on my F series up to the F3.

My experience with them over quite some years is within the UK.  Their performance generally is pretty solid, but it seems that reasonably often they'll mark goods you're selling them down for some minor defect you oddly weren't aware of, whilst stuff you buy from them may have a distinct flaw that they didn't deign to mention.  Curious.

Also in UK, I've found Ffordes to be very personable, pleasant & reliable, & they give you the option of selling for you on commission.

Seconded. Both my Leica bodies came from Ffordes and I'll always buy from them if possible. Even if the price is a little higher than elsewhere.

I have also had a lot of good dealings with MPB in the UK. They have often upgraded the classification of items I've sent in and any issues I've ever had come solely from their size and the vast amount of gear they turn over.

I think I have had an upgrade from MPB twice and a downgrade once. I have had no problems with purchases.

The last lens I sent to ffordes was an Apo Macro Elmarit R 100 (MPB didn't want an R lens); they said it needed serviced to remove dust inside; the quoted cost of service would have significantly reduced the price they offered for purchase, so I declined. They took a long time getting the quote and then sending it back (at my cost). I was disappointed, although I've had no issues with them before.

I think that with buying used at a distance, you just have to stay alert - well you would, wouldn't you? - second-guessing the seller's character and combing the description.  So (& none of this is to do with MPB!) in recent months I sourced two R-mount lenses from different vendors, one an established photographic shop with high street premises and the other an ebay seller who concentrates on photo gear & lenses in particular.  Both lenses were described as "haze free" amongst the other descriptors.  and both turned out to have distinct hazing - one blotchy but all across & the other evenly.  Granted, if you're checking a lot of stuff & making notes, the odd thing can slip through the net ...

I found the experience instructive, and after brief communication sent each item back with an explanation for full refund, which in a gentlemanly way was promptly actioned in both cases.

Sorry for the thread sidetrack ... 😉
