setuporg Posted April 21 Share #1 Posted April 21 Advertisement (gone after registration) To bring together the perennial favorites, I've checked out some cases for the Q3 43 and found the idea preposterous. It's like getting a thin iPhone and then burying in an unwieldy plastic monstrosity of a case. The Q makes sense only naked. Its shape also mirrors an M. It's a giant lens with a thin body. Do not obfuscate the metaphor by bulking up the body. It is the lens that matters. Now that we got rid of the case, the strap is what remains, and the bag to carry it in. Hopefully this post will be a North Star bridging all of the discussions on these three topics.
Advertisement Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Hi setuporg, Take a look here focus on the bag and the strap, not the case. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tarekith Posted April 21 Share #2 Posted April 21 The grip! Can't imagine using the Q without a grip
bobtodrick Posted April 21 Share #3 Posted April 21 Can't imagine bulking up my Q (which I've had for 8 years now) with a grip. I'm with the OP...a strap...at most a 1/2 case. 1
Tseg Posted April 22 Share #4 Posted April 22 (edited) I decided to focus on minimalist... but did add the Q3 thumb grip. I use a Gordy's wrist strap and got the Oberwerth Q2 bag on clearance for a few hundred off, which, interestingly, appears to be identical to the Q3 bag, which is a few hundred dollars more. Only recently did I discover the benefits of using a lens down approach in a bag. Historically I always had the camera back perpendicular to the bottom of the bag. I have a 1/8 black mist filter for portraits, NL5 close focus filter for Macros, a Polarizer filter for when I am around water, and a 10 stop ND filter if I want to break out the tripod and make smooth lake/river shots. By coincidence, the Q3 lens fits the same filters I used on my Sony RX1 12 years ago. I also carry a small Giottos blower, lens pen and lens cloth. Also a spare battery and SD card. I think I'm all set. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Trankster Posted April 22 Share #5 Posted April 22 I use a half case with a basic leather strap while walking around with my camera. Always condsidered this minimalist. I do have a Lims grip case, but rarely use it. The half case provides some tactile grip and protects the base and bottom edges of the camera from my clumsiness. I only use a bag for storage or transporting the camera when traveling. Welcome, dear visitor! RQ44 Posted April 22 Share #6 Posted April 22 I use the Leica half case and supplied strap. I tried one of the rope cooph straps but it would slip off my shoulder too many times to warrant it.
LocalHero1953 Posted April 22 Share #7 Posted April 22 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a wrist strap, and the camera otherwise lives in a bag - different bags for different outings. I'm with the OP - anything else is bulk. My Q3 43 is popular with my small grandchildren, but they are all trained to put their hands through the wrist strap first.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted April 22 Share #8 Posted April 22 Nothing I dislike about cameras more than not having an adequate grip. I carry my Q3 43 all day long using a LIM half case with grip, a wrist strap and a thumbie.
PhotoCruiser Posted April 22 Share #9 Posted April 22 (edited) I have the original Leica finger loop and the grip in my Q2 and a third party hand loop on my SL2, no straps ever. Less tangling when in a bag and impossible to drop the camera. Chris Edited April 22 by PhotoCruiser
Mikep996 Posted April 22 Share #10 Posted April 22 For a Leica M or Q the only thing I use now is one of those thumb support thingies. I have the Leica grips for the M and my Q2 and a variety of different straps/ bags. But the only strap I use is the Leica Nylon and I didn't care for the added bulk/feel of the added grips for either the M or Q. So when I go out with the Q(3) I carry only the camera on its Leica strap. If I go out with an M and feel like I need a bag, it's as Domke FX5B. But nowadays I seldom carry a bag when out shooting - usually just use the bag for carrying a few items on the plane/whatever when traveling.
Robert Ardinger Posted April 22 Share #11 Posted April 22 Just use the supplied Leica leather strap and a Leica thumb support. No grip or case. Use a Domke F-X5A with an extra battery, cards and cleaning cloth.
F-train Posted April 22 Share #12 Posted April 22 Luigi strap, you can easily use that as a wrist strap. Thumb support. My RH thumb still misses the film advance lever. Nothing else. Bought a Q for its ergonomics and quality.
