bherman01545 Posted April 18 Share #1 Posted April 18 Advertisement (gone after registration) All; I just picked up an original Leica silver Thumb Grip #24015 for my Leica M10. I had been using an original Leica silver metal hot shoe cover to protect the hot shoe, which provided a reasonably snug fit—snug in the sense that it can be easily removed with my fingernail but without wobbling. The Leica Thumb Grip slightly wobbles and is what I would consider a loose fit - if I tap the front of the camera, it starts to back out. Is this normal? What can be done to make this a bit tighter? I don't want to damage the camera by trying to tighten the Hot Shoe. -Brad

Crem Posted April 19 Share #2 Posted April 19 I do think there is some amount of variation in how well they fit. I've had 3 different M10 variants with two different copies of the Leica thumb grip. My M10-R fits perfect with zero side to side play, but one of the other bodies had a problem. Specifically, by pressing on the thumb area of the grip, it would cause the grip to very slightly move left/right in the hot shoe. I've always assumed it's due to manufacturing tolerances. One thing to look into is how compressed the springs are along the sides of the hot shoe. I've had to bend them up before in my film Leicas so they would apply more pressure to my hot shoe mounted viewfinder. My M10-R + thumb grip fits very snug and does not pop out if I tap on the front of the camera. To me that sounds like the springs need to be bent up a bit. I bought this one off of Amazon Fr: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B081S7MTHH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title A bit more expensive than your €21,22 cheapo one but it was a perfect fit on my M10-P, so I bought two more for my M11's, also perfect.........Bonus was that I got all three for less than one Leica thumbrest, plus change. PS. It's offered in silver too. Edited April 19 by Smudgerer Additional
TomB_tx Posted April 19 Share #4 Posted April 19 (edited) I 3D printed a plastic one from a link in one of yukosteel's posts, which fits perfectly. When doing a 3D print you can adjust the X-Y-Z axis scaling individually fo adjust, Didn't need it on this part, but I use the scaling often on others. You may not like the looks, but it works and feels great... Welcome, dear visitor!
