jjroroek Posted April 11 Share #1 Posted April 11 Advertisement (gone after registration) Exactly 1 year ago I bought a Q3 28 and sold my M10R set with 2 Summiluxes (28.50).I like to share my subjective experiences and findings With a heavy heart I had to say goodbye to the M10r, but focusing and the 28 mm summilux as standard lens no longer worked well for me . I could no longer see the entire field properly because I was also using a +3 diopter correction lens and with glasses without a correction lens did not work either. In that respect the q3 was a revelation to me and I was immediately enthusiastic. the autofocus, image stabilization and electronic viewfinder were a blessing after the m10r and ensured that I got 300% sharper images. Also the overall image quality, the low light performance, and the ergonomics of the camera make me happy to this day with the switch I made. But there are also some points that I like less about the Q3 28. first of all i clearly notice that it is not a 28mm lens but a 26mm or even 25mm. despite the fact that 28mm was ok with the m10r as my standard lens it was really 28mm there. result is that i have to crop more often than desirable. Furthermore i notice that the dynamic range in the shadows in low light is less than with the m10r. i can't actually prove that but it is my experience and what I also miss is the DOF of the 50mm summilux. cropping with the 28mm to 50mm really gives a completely different effect than when 50mm is your standard lens Finally i also think it is a missed opportunity that the viewfinder image does not crop when you crop to another format. That is of course no different for me with the leica m but they could have built that into the q as an option My verdict so far is that the q3 28 is more than adequate for me compared to the m10r but if leica manages to build an electronic viewfinder with focus assist and image stabilization into a future m I will probably switch back to the m line

chris_tribble Posted April 11 Share #2 Posted April 11 Interesting - why not try the Q3 43. I think you might fall in love with the Q concept again…

chris_tribble Posted April 11 Share #4 Posted April 11 (edited) I thought so, but found it wasn’t! Still have M10R and 35 Summicron Asph which I love, it the Q3 43 feels surprisingly wide. The set here is all Q3 43 - though one image is a Lightroom stitched panorama! https://www.flickr.com/photos/ctribble/shares/v95Xp67Vj9 Edited April 11 by chris_tribble
setuporg Posted April 13 Share #5 Posted April 13 Yeah I found Q343 to be surprisingly wide too, indeed!
