I've hoped that finally, with the Q3 43, I'll get a multipurpose camera I can use both for travel photography and recording video interviews.  With the USB-C mike update, I can connect DJI Mic Mini or RØDE Wireless Go 3 via USB-C.  However, FOTOS don't work then!  If you have a mike connected via USB-C, and try to connect FOTOS, it fails to connect, without a clear error.  If you have the FOTOS connected and then connect a USB-C mike, the camera asks whether it should disconnect FOTOS as it cannot do both.  WTF?!  The whole point of FOTOS in such a scenario is to check focus, audio, frame, and start/stop recording...  Leica please enable wireless operation of FOTOS with the Q3 family when a USB mike is connected.

The only way to do vlogging I can think of right now is to

  • setup the Q3 on a tripod, attach the mikes but not plug in the receiver into the USB-C cable yet
  • stand in front of the camera, focus, frame
  • plug in the receiver and record

You either quit FOTOS first before plugging in the mike or click disconnect if it's still running.  Also have to make sure the audio is going through the external mike, looking at the LCD...  And go back to where the focus was.  Or hope that AF will work.  What a mess!
