tappan Posted April 8 Share #1  Posted April 8 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I have a version one 90mm Macro Elmar and the newest macro adapter. SO MUCH Leica fun!!! I love the combo on my M10-R. I am now looking at a very good used price for "like new condition" ElPro set. I don't know too much about this kit of macro glass. Does anybody here use the ElPro kit, and do you have any thoughts good or bad? Thanks in advance.. I guess what I am trying to write here is this-> Does it have useful applications different than my 90mm macro Elmar and adapter? Thank you, Mark Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Hi tappan, Take a look here ELpro Questions/ in conjunction with 90 Macro Elmar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Crem Posted April 8 Share #2  Posted April 8 (edited) Are you talking about the Leica Elpro 52mm Close-Up Lens? If so I have one. It screws on like a lens filter and gives you close focus capability on a normal Leica lens. I've used it a handful of times to get some unique photos. I find it works well, but is inconvenient to screw on, take it off, etc. That said, I prefer using the 90 Macro Elmar + close focus adapter. Before you get the Elpro I would recommend looking up the magnification table in the manual. It tells you what magnification you will get with various lenses. You're definitely not going to get 1:1  magnification so I'd make sure it does what you want before you spend the money on it. I haven't used mine since getting the 90 Macro Elmar + adapter. I did find it fun to play with the Elpro though. Especially with lenses that have a bit of character to them since the 90 Macro Elmar has absolutely zero vintage character. Edited April 8 by Crem

Have you (can you) used the elpro on a 24 or 28 NOT for Macro but to have the lens your using have closer focus in a regular environmental portrait? Thank you, Mark

For close focus at about 10cm or 20cm (i did not meter) yes but hardly farther.

Thank you, Mark I can't speak for a 24, but it works with a 28 cron. Below are some pics both at maximum and minimum focus. Both shots are Cron 28 v2, F5.6, aperture priority on a M10-R. As you can see, the min and max focus is a very small range. Way too close to use for portraits. I had to bump the exposure and match white balance on both photos. Otherwise, no edits. Ignore any critical focus issues as I took these in bright mid day sun and could barely see the live view screen. I was maybe 10 - 20 cm from the subject like @lct said... way too close for people photos. When I do use the Elpro, it's with a 50 Summilux ASPH, but again I rarely use it as I have better options now. Justin Mott on Youtube talks about it and used it with a 75 APO. You might want to check out his videos. I believe Justin used it to take some impressive photos of large animal eyes (rhinos, elephants, etc). Welcome, dear visitor!
