mattlim Posted April 7 Share #1  Posted April 7 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, I am considering buying an M5 and noticed these spots on the shutter curtain in this image shared by the seller.  Should I be worried about them and will they be an issue? I am new to the Leica system, so I really appreciate the help. Advertisement Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Hi mattlim, Take a look here Shutter Curtain Issue?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted April 7 Share #2 Â Posted April 7 50 year old rubberized cloth curtains often have slight marks that are probably not a problem, but there is always a chance it could be. Unless the price is really good I'd keep looking. M5s sometimes had problems with a curtain roller (unrepairable), and I don't know if that affects the ease of curtain replacement if it should be required. If you get a good price, good return policy that allows time for a couple of test rolls it could be a good buy. I bought an M5 with several problems a decade back, and DAG serviced it well - very nice camera.
mattlim Posted April 7 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 7 Good to know. Thanks! I am not sure on the serial number, that would be my next question, as I have heard about the curtain roller issues for earlier serial numbers on the M5. Asking price is $900, which I think is a good deal?
TomB_tx Posted April 7 Share #4 Â Posted April 7 I paid more that that a decade ago for one that needed work...

As mentioned, try Golden Touch or DAG (mine is there now getting a CLA and battery update, I hope it comes back soon, he cashed my check last week) and schedule a service for it. DAG is charging me $590, his standard charge for M camera CLA's and overhauls
