Hi,

FYI: I ran into a strange problem with the most recent versions of Apple's Sequoia OS versions 15.3.2 and on to 15.4. Yesterday, after coming home and downloading my files from both my Q2 and Q3 43, I noticed that when in Finder, the preview of the RAW file shows a black box rather than a preview of the file. If I open the files in Lightroom or Capture 1 (and I suppose any other editing software), then the files are fine and you can work on them, export, etc.

I called Apple support and after an hour of working with three techs (going up the chain), it turns out this is a known (although I suspect recent) issue and they are"working on it". This problem seem to apply to ALL Q2 and Q3 43 files even if taken a month or year ago. I do not know if the problem applies to M or SL or any other Leica models.

So if you view the files through Photo Downloader on LR or Bridge (or another editor that offers such a feature) instead of through the finder, does the problem occur? I cannot remember using anything but Bridge. It makes no real sense to use the Finder - although I admit that it should work.

Though normal finder ICONs, press space bar to display a black box.

MBP M2 Pro, Sequoia 15.4

I have to open preview App to display photos.

I've not had time (going out for a swim!) to try exactly what you mention but it's interesting in that context to note that preview of Q3 DNG files works in Finder (i.e., both in the preview panel of Finder and by pressing the spacebar when highlighting a relevant file).

Here under Mac OS 15.4 it is as follows with the dng of Q2, Q3 43 and SL3 in the Finder:
1. View as icons: works
2. View as list: works
3. View as columns: does not work when I select the individual image and it should then be displayed on the far right with the information. Mind you, a thumbnail is also displayed to the left of the file name.
4. view as gallery: works.

Enlarging the dng file with the Space key also works perfectly.

Thanks to everyone for this help especially Ning Ning for laying it out so clearly.

Pieter12: It's not a minor inconvenience if it fits your work flow.

jaapv: yes, it works to view them in the photo editors I use, but for me using the Finder for a quick first glance before even downloading the files can be very helpful in some cases for me.

Thanks again to all for helping me figure this out. I'll pass this info on to Apple Support since they seem to need some help:)

Finder quicklook  for DNG is back after Sequoia 15.5 update.

Never mind, wrong answer, couldn't delete my reply.
