mwktar Posted April 5 Share #1 Posted April 5 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just trying to assess if normal really. I’ve pick up an Elmar-m - whenever I extend the ap ring is always “stuck” it’s as if when I collapse the lens, the ring gets pushed forward ever so slightly (as much as it can really). When i extend and lock I have to apply light pressure backward and then the ring moves back and will move freely. If I don’t, there’s a chance it will start moving anyway after a stiff start, or be stiff enough that trying to move actually moves the front section so can unlock the lens. The seller seems to suggest this is just from lack of use and it will Ease up, which seems odd as it’s only stiff from forward movement id say when it can be moved, the clicks themselves are maybe a tad soft/light I can’t try another, so just wondering if I can get Input from other users
Advertisement Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Hi mwktar, Take a look here Elmar-M 50 apterture ring “stuck on extension”. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
J S H Posted April 5 Share #2 Posted April 5 Mine does this occasionally. It's obviously not the way it is designed to operate, but it doesn't seem to be a huge issue and the behavior of mine hasn't changed in the last 5 years or so since it started. I am guessing that something inside is worn or slightly out of adjustment. If moving it backwards gets it to work every time for you, then may not be a dealbreaker...but I doubt it's going to spontaneously fix itself. mwktar Posted April 6 Author Share #3 Posted April 6 (edited) Hmmmm maybe I’ll return, not sure of I’m being unreasonably picky anyone out there have models where this issue hasn’t developed? Edited April 6 by mwktar
lct Posted April 6 Share #4 Posted April 6 I own two copies of this lens, an early one i got in the 90s with my M6J and a late one from 2006 with 6-bit coding. Neither suffers from this flaw. Unless the price allows you to have the lens repaired, i would return it personally.

Cheers man- it was 750 gbp - so not the most expensive but also expensive enough to not want to bother getting CLA/repaired
