kyono Posted April 1 Share #1 Posted April 1 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been using LEICA Q, CL, M11 so far. In the case of Q and CL, when the photo number is L1009999, the next photo is saved in the 101LEICA folder as L1010001. However, in the case of M11, the photo after L1009999 is saved in the 101LEICA folder, but the photo number is L1000001. When saved like this, there is a problem of L1000001 being duplicated. Is this a problem that only occurs in my M11? My M11 firmware is 2.1.6. I have not updated it yet because I do not want to take the risk of updating the firmware to the latest version on a camera that cannot be downgraded. --------------------------- After initializing the camera, change the photo number of the newly taken photo (L1000001) to L1009999 and then take the second photo, the photo L1000001 will be saved in the 101LEICA folder. Advertisement Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Hi kyono, Take a look here M11's photo number. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted April 2 Share #2 Posted April 2 Are you trying to trick the camera? My numbers never repeat; they get renamed on ingest to something meaningful so that I can search for it.

When saved like this, there is a problem of L1000001 being duplicated. Is this a problem that only occurs in my M11? The camera's menu should have the user-option to reset or increment the first three digits - i.e. the "L100........" part - separately. Menu (near bottom) > Image Numbering > Change Filename > virtual keyboard to enter new letters or digits > save change. My M10s also work about like that - and after 8 years using M10s, I am now up to images numbered L117xxxx on one body, and L116xxxx on the other (I leapfrog them to further avoid any duplicate numbers even with two or more cameras in use.) All described in that thing called the "M11 Instruction Manual." Pages 81-82. https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/pm-73222-Leica-M11_Instructions_en.pdf ................... EDIT - a warning, however. If you use multiple SD cards in a given camera, or between cameras, you need to format them ALL to contain no images when you "roll over" from 9999 to 0000. And in the case of the M11, probably the internal memory as well. Before you do the numbering reset. Otherwise, the camera will be "contaminated" by the last four digits of the most recent picture number already on the card (or internal storage). All too easy to reset the numbers perfectly, and as soon as a different SD card is used, the nice fresh "L1020001" you just set may jump to, say, "L1029934." And you have to start all over again. That's Leica's way of automatically avoiding duplicate numbers in the final 4 digits. Edited April 2 by adan

Of course, I also know that the image numbering is like this. Leica Q, Q-P, Q3, CL are all saved in the format of 100LEICA→L1000001-L1009999, 101LEICA→L1010001-L1019999. (I have never used Leica SL, so I could not check.) Absurdly, it is saved in the format of 100LEICA→L1000001-L1009999, 101LEICA→L1000001-L1009999 on M11, and it is the same for not only my camera but also the latest firmware M11-P of the store. Of course, even if you initialize the camera and proceed, the image numbering is saved as above regardless of the firmware version or interface language. As someone who backs up photos to external storage and manages them all with Lightroom, duplicate photo numbers are annoying and absurd. You told me that there is no such problem with the M10, but I think it is strange that only the M11 series cameras save with this image numbering. Would you recommend simply taking 10,000 shots and running the shutter box through this test? Of course, the same results were obtained by actually taking 10,000 shots with an electronic shutter and checking the image numbering. The argument of this topic is why there is a difference between the image numbering of the Leica Q, Q-P, Q3, CL, M10 and the image numbering of the M11(of course, you can argue that the difference is not a problem). Main menu page 4, Camera Settings > Edit File Name: enter L11 If your last pic was L1009999, the next one should be L1100001 i guess. I don't remember what i did myself so it is just a guess sorry. Photoworks Posted April 5 Share #6 Posted April 5 The M11 is running a different software than M10, Q's and SL's If it is a bug, you can report it to Leica. But I will update it to the latest version to see if it has already been fixed. in any case you have been asked to reset the camera after updating, and the numbers will start fresh.
