Einst_Stein Posted March 23 Share #1 Posted March 23 Advertisement (gone after registration) Eveytime when.a post mentioned Leica MATE, someone would jump out saying it’s F/4, too slow, blah, blah, blah. Recently sufpddently a lot of people jump out saying f/4 is fast, super fast, blah, blah, blah. is digital technology really improved so much ? Advertisement Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Hi Einst_Stein, Take a look here F/4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Viv Posted March 23 Share #2 Posted March 23 (edited) f./4 IS f./4. It's the size of a hole. It's faster than smaller holes and slower than bigger holes. Edited March 23 by Viv
Jeff S Posted March 23 Share #3 Posted March 23 The owners of the MATE evidently don’t think it’s too slow. Nobody with basic understanding thinks f/4 is “super fast.” Yes, technology is improving, increasing flexibility.
250swb Posted March 24 Share #4 Posted March 24 I'd rather look at a portfolio of work shot at f/4 than f/1.4. 1

I find it quite hard to think in terms of a portfolio consisting of images shot at a single aperture - unless it was with a pinhole camera. 😉

Depends a lot on the kind of subjects, I guess. As a happy MATE owner and user, I generally do not find f/4 limiting on my M11 (more so on my M7). And let's face it, a MATE will rarely be the one and only lens of an M photographer. Switch to a Summilux if needed, and all is good. I have a 50mm Summilux and it's the best 50mm lens I have, but I've only used it at f1.4 a very, very few times in twenty years.
