My M8 (two) are 18 years old, the pictures are still lovely.  I fear they will die on me at some point though. They have had good use.

  • mnsh changed the title to happy with my old M8

My Leica m8 is as old as yours, and I never feared that one day it would run out of power. But that's probably how old things are. And it's true that we've gotten used to Leica film cameras surviving their owners. Who knows, maybe the M8 will also be so immortal, provided of course that there are batteries that can serve it for the next fifty years. What matters is that you keep shooting and enjoying the fruits of your creation, with your trusty Leica M8 camera.

My M8 is 18 years old also and still going strong. It is my only digital camera from that era that I still use and find special, in it's own way, even compared to my more modern M11.

The M8 is a very special camera. It was far from the crowd when it was released and cameras have only moved further away from it's simple and humble joy.

I sold mine to get a 246 Monochrom, which I don't regret but I do miss it and will definitely have another one day.

I sold mine over ten years ago only to recently get a used replacement a few month ago, and so happy I did.  It's keeping my Q2M company along with other gear.  I'm doing a photo exhibition soon, and using one of my photographs taken recently with the M8.  I initiated the M8 photo thread on this forum way back when.  The M8 is a worthy tool!

Snap on age, been back "home" twice, upgrade to 8.2 when perpetual upgrades were promised - still waiting. Then three years back for red exposure LED failure, some other parts changed I suspect were known points of failure as Leica give 12 months warranty, still producing the goods as is the Nikon D3 which was a landmark advance, that replaced the D2H that had shutter failure, a known issue on that model. I don't see anything that would improve my photography on the digital side it's all down to my implementation that's their weak point 😉

I've owned an m8 since the beginning of the year. My first digital M. I can't say anything other than that I simply love it. The camera has shown me a completely different way of taking photos. I don't think a digital camera can get much closer to an analog camera than the Leica m8.
The only problem is that I'm very worried that the camera will break one day. I would be so sad :(

My two M8's are used all the time.

I love the quality of the images.  N B.  The smaller sensor cuts off corners which often have smearing or distortions on full frame sensors.

Recently started another  round of IR with Hoya R72 filter...lovely and so much fun.

B&W's are good too, although I get good monochrome from my M-P as well.

All best and all have fun with this Leica gem.

...

PS so glad to see wilfredo coming back to the M8
