AceVentura1986 Posted March 8 Share #1 Posted March 8 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey, all. I currently have two systems I use: the Leica M (M10P and M10M) and the Canon EOS (5DSR) systems, both with a stable of lenses. Since I stopped shooting professionally, I seldom use my Canon gear anymore and have thought of selling both the camera and the lenses and just sticking w Leica Ms. However, I still use the Canon gear for TS work and also to digitize negatives. For these two purposes, I use the Canon 24mm TS and the Canon 100 f/2.8 (the non-L version). My question is: Are there lenses that I can use on an M for macro and TS photography? I know the Canon FD 35mm TS can be adapted but I’ve also read that its quality is pretty bad compared to the EF 24mm. Thanks in advance.

GFW2-SCUSA Posted April 11 Share #2 Posted April 11 The 90mm macro elmar with the adaptor lets you do macro work. The lens is tiny and sharp. I don't know what TS photography is, so I can't speak on that. I uses the 90 macro a lot and l love it. I can stick it in my pocket, no need for a bag. I use it on an M10R as well as on a SL2 and CL. PCPix Posted April 11 Share #3 Posted April 11 The issue with EF lenses is getting the aperture to stop down for use on the M. This can be achieved by setting your desired aperture on an EOS body, then remove the lens whilst simultaneously pressing the DoF preview button - the aperture stays in the stopped down position. The problem then is achieving accurate focus on the M body with a stopped down lens, especially if you’re in the f/8-f/16 area - plus the added annoyance of doing the whole lens-swap-shuffle if you want to change the aperture… It’s time someone made an EF to M adapter that has a battery within the design to control the aperture, though that would likely be expensive and with not too much of a market. I was in a similar position (with M and SL2 bodies) and a nice set of L lenses. I tried the Sigma adapter for the SL2, but really didn’t like the unreliable autofocus speed/accuracy with my particular lenses, although all lenses can be manually focused, the TS lenses DO work very well in this configuration on the SL2. In the end, a decision had to be made and my daughter got given an EOS1DX and some great lenses and the rest went to MPB… In short - there are plenty of manual focus legacy lenses for macro on the M bodies (the Leica-R 100mm apo seems to be king, but there are many other very good options, I personally use the SMC Pentax-M 50 and 100 with really nice results - and with an very modest outlay have two lenses, bellows and extension tubes for less than £150) For the TS I don’t see a sensible way forward with an M body, the old legacy shift lenses are nowhere near the quality of the current crop, which seem to all have electronic aperture control. You may end up getting one of the SL bodies and the Sigma adapter for your TS lens… Or simply stay with the Canon - though I think you will find a step change from the 5SR to an SL2 or SL3 !
AceVentura1986 Posted April 11 Author Share #4 Posted April 11 Just gonna keep the 5DSR. I wanted to do this to simplify my life and get rid of gear I seldom use but it seems this will actually complicate my life and require Jerry rigging gear that was never designed to work together.
Biotar Posted April 11 Share #5 Posted April 11 Well - I have a similar situation to you. My bridge between EOS -SLR and M is the SL2-S. It allows me to combine both systems perfectly.

I don't regard the SL2-S as an AF camera, but as the best MF camera, especially with the Canon EF system, because only this offers the automatic aperture control that allows focusing at open aperture. - especially with the Canon-TS and Zeiss ZE lenses, which are unbeatable here.
tappan Posted April 14 Share #7 Posted April 14 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M10-R. I use the Leica ELpro52. Also, I have the version 1 of the 90mm Macro Elmar and the newest version of the macro adapter. All these work very well. Mark P.S. If I were you I would use a 50mm rangefinder lens with the $475.00 ElPro52
