Once I had seen it on my Summicron 35 v4 I couldn’t unsee it [...] It was obvious on projection screen where edges looked sharper than centers at around f/4 but i haven't heard about focus shift then, i thought it came from the field curvature of the Colorplan...

Vanillasludge Posted April 7 Share #43  Posted April 7 I owned the F 1.0 Noct back in the early 2000’s and found accurately focusing it could be unpredictable. I assumed that was the nature of the shallow depth of field but I think focus shift was also a factor.  Mine was really good at full aperture but I was never totally happy with it when I used it slightly stopped down.  I have a modern f1.2 Voigtlander lens that is actually no problem to focus at any aperture.  The king of all focus shift has to be the Sonnar CM 1.5, with the Summar a close second.  The Summar has a great excuse as it’s 90 years old but the modern Sonnar broke my heart and brain.
