In a zombie apocalypse, you don't have to be able to run away faster than the zombie, just faster than the other victims who are also running away.
I can certainly do this better with a lightweight camera like a Leica Q3 than with heavy, debris-like equipment.

It would be worth carrying as many M lenses as you can get in your pockets. Small, dense - they make excellent kinetic ammo.

The Q3 aside from being an exceptionally good camera with garbage battery life also doubles as a great close quarters weapon. The unit is black block of cerebral destruction should you hit the zombie's head hard enough. I would keep the Leica. Any other brand wont cut it. If you are going to war with zombies you need to go in class, have the goods to prove your worth. Nothing beats entering the battlefield with a CMD ( Camera of Mass Destruction ) and the red dot alone will give your enemies the dreaded thought of knowing they will soon meet their maker. Even when the bloodshed begins, the weather sealing will allow you forge through the masses without any regard for liquid intrusion. When you finally reach the safe haven of Bravo camp, the high ranking officers there will respect you more ..........cause you are shootin a Leica.

you're not the only one on this thread to note poor Q3 battery life. I have the Q3 43 and find the battery life to be exceptionally good. I have only one battery and have never used it up even when shooting all day long. are you shooting video? do you leave bluetooth on while shooting? I do neither of those things. I didn't think there was any difference between the OG Q3 and the 43, but maybe there was some optimization?

sorry for the tangent, now back to the regularly scheduled zombie apocalypse.

A Q3 would be worthless as one would have to get up close with the zombies to get anything redeemable photographic wise, and then that would be that, game over. I would choose a Nikon with longest lens possible. That's of course if your brief is to come back with photos of zombies. If it was to document other aspects of life, like fleeing the zombies, then a Q would be perfectly acceptable.

I love my Q3 (best travel camera ever), but in a zombie apocalypses, give me a Z9 (or Z8) and the S zoom trinity (they would fit in my peak design backpack); I might want some distance from the zombies.

No Zombies but a lot of war so for me the most inspirational woman photographer at this time is Lynsey Addario who among her kit carries a Leica Q3. She is a Nikon ambassador and Conflict/ documentary photographer. I would also highly recommend her book 'Life of Love and War'
