Maksim M Posted February 23 Share #1 Posted February 23 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone! Recently I bought Meike 55mm f/1.8 (as I know it is based on Zeiss Sonar optic scheme, like a Sony-Zeiss lens), and it didn’t work with my SL3 - error in connection with lens, doesn’t focus or change aperture. So I write to the Meike and now waiting for the answer. Does anyone uses Meike lenses on the Leica SL system? Is it work properly? Will be appreciated if some one share shots taken on Meike lenses too! Best Regards, Maksim
Advertisement Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Hi Maksim M, Take a look here Meike Lenses on SL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted February 23 Share #2 Posted February 23 As far as I know they are not a member of the L Alliance so the lens is most likely reverse engineered. There have been AF complaints before. Others have reported properly working lenses so it seems to be a bit of a lottery.

It surely is patented? Edited February 24 by Ivar B
jaapv Posted February 24 Share #4 Posted February 24 Maybe they pay license fees? Or- I am no lawyer- the physical dimensions cannot be patented. At any rate reverse engineering of software seems to be legal.
jdlaing Posted February 24 Share #5 Posted February 24 On what planet do the Chinese give one infinitesimal damn about a patent?
BernardC Posted February 24 Share #6 Posted February 24 The shape of the lens mount can't be patented. That's why you can get lens adapters for every system, and not just from the "Chinese." That's not a new thing, Novoflex was selling macro systems for most lens mounts 50 years ago. Software specifications are a different thing. Meike doesn't have access to the actual L-Mount communication protocol, so they have to reverse-engineer it.

For stuff sold outside China the importer does. And this is a serious company, not some fly-by-night village workshop.
Maksim M Posted February 25 Author Share #8 Posted February 25 I Have a contact with a seller about 55 f/1.8 Meike. He told me, that he contacted with meike and they say that the lens isn’t compatible with SL3 and they working on fix without any expectations . As for me, I don’t believe the seller and asked marketplace to send the lens back.
jaapv Posted February 25 Share #9 Posted February 25 I do. Obviously they did not manage to crack the SL3 software yet. However they should not be selling the lenses in this condition.

So I think if fix will show up, there is no problem to order it again.
Maksim M Posted March 3 Author Share #11 Posted March 3 End of a story. The lens works well on Panasonic S5, still wont work on SL3. So I sold the lens.
