ktmrider2 Posted March 3 Share #21 Posted March 3 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased my Q3 at the end of December, 2024, and have been using it a lot on my RTW trip since the end of January, 2025. I am thinking of selling it as well. I find the Ricoh GR3 so much smaller and more compact and produces similar images. I use the 35 crop a lot as it is my favorite focal length on my MP. I think I should have bought a digital M instead as I still prefer my MP. It is a great camera but why do I have 6 M mount lenses at home in the closet? Advertisement Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Hi ktmrider2, Take a look here Leica Q3 the perfect travel camera. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
M11 for me Posted March 3 Share #22 Posted March 3 If 28 is your favourite lens then the Q3 will as well be the favourite travel camera as well of course. Plus: With 60Mpix you can easily crop to 35 and 50. The Q3 then covers 28 to 50 easily. Seen like that the 28 is more versatile that the 43. To be clear: I know several people who have as their main lens a 70-200. I could never go with that (weight aside) as I prefer wider focal lengths. 1

flappo Posted March 4 Share #24 Posted March 4 So the general consensus is that the 28mm is the favoured Q3 ? I can buy both , I just don't fancy carting all that gear around
Tarekith Posted March 4 Share #25 Posted March 4 It totally depends on your preference. I wasn't interested at all in the Q3 when it was only available as 28mm, it's just not a focal length I like personally. When the 43 was announced though, it was a no brainer for me as 40mm is my go to for a walk around camera. And just 28 lets you crop to 35 or 50mm, the 43 lets you crop to 60 or 75mm (and even more). Those focal lengths are preferable for the way I like to capture images, like the hawk I just posted on the 43 image thread. There's no right or wrong answer to the 28 or 43 choice, if one is resonating with you more go with that,
ktmrider2 Posted March 4 Share #26 Posted March 4 Coincidence that Ricoh and Leica both make their small point and shoots available with 28mm and 40mm lenses. Perhaps, great minds do think alike.

I have a slightly different approach than many Q users in that i am not a big fan of shooting with the intention to crop although happily will if it’s needed. I tend to enjoy framing my shot in camera and cropping to tidy up composition or changing aspect ratio. I just enjoy photography more that way. That said, I prefer the 28mm as I simply like shooting wider in general. 35mm is my go to and 24mm is another favourite so 28mm (or 26mm) falls nicely in the middle and is becoming a real favourite of mine. My suggestion would be just going with your gut instinct, what was the first one that came to mind as being the best option, that’s usually the correct choice in my experience..
Leslie22 Posted March 5 Share #29 Posted March 5 I agree there is no right or wrong , 28 or 43 "which ever rows your boat" I bought the Q3 43 , as a travel camera , and was a little concerned with it not being wide enough for that occasional shot. I solved that issue NOT with another camera , but with practicing panoramas ..... 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 shots stitched in Lightroom .... with careful technique they look wonderful (with the occasional disaster) But , I am happy with the result.
