Four weeks vacation in Asia and the Leica Q3 was the perfect camera. Small, inconspicuous and I didn't miss a thing.

I am super excited.  First Leica is a Q3.  Coming from the world of big lenses.  Wanted to create a new portfolio for a new stage in life.

Extensive travel is my rationale now, and couldn't think of a better camera for world travel and a love of landscape.

I use a Q3/43 and M11+summicron 28mm for travel. Also perfect for me 😀

I favor 21 on the wide end but don’t want to lug my SL3 with the 21 APO Summicron-SL around with the Q3 43.  Plus, I don’t shoot wide that often.  For my next trip I’ll try to stitch for static scenes and throw a GR iii in my bag for things that require a quick shot here or there.

i am sure the Q3 has advantages over the Q2. I have a Q2, bought second hand, as I did with an older  Q1.  I use the camera for scouting when I am working on a project. Professionally I use a Phase One and a Leica S3 as a back up. Both cameras are heavy, and the Phase limited to a tripod. The Q2 has limitations -although you can crop to 50 mm, it is not such- but is, as was mentioned, a perfect camera for scouting and look like a tourist. it has high ISO capability and is quick even shot manually as I always do. The color base is nice, etc.  I have two Ms for work that requires light equipment, but yes, definitely a camera to carry along.

I am presently in Egypt traveling around the world.  Am actually surprised at the number of tourists and have seen two other Q3’s.  I think the Q3 is a bit large and heavy.  I thought I would sell my Ricoh GR3 when I purchased the Q3 in December and I admit to using the Q3 more than the GR3 or my MP but the GR3 is unbeatable in the size/weight category.

So yes the Q3 is good but perfect?  Am glad I have GR3 so it can live in my pocket and I can leave the phone in the room.

If I travel by air I always bring my Q3 28 and a compact camera with a 24-70 as a backup.  For driving trips throughout the Western U.S.  I bring a more extensive kit for more versatility.

I would say with it's 60mp sensor it would an ideal camera for travel. Lots of opportunity to crop in a bit if required. Travelling with one camera and lens is very good, its allows for a more enjoyable holiday without the need to lugging around gear and worrying about it getting stolen.

Lovely camera and despite being a co op with Panasonic doesn't seem to attract the same negative connotations the d lux range attracts for this association  for some odd reason ?

Am I missing something ??

Many cameras are "co ops" as you describe them. Many cameras these days use bought in components to make them more cost efficient. As I understand it the lens mechanism for the Q43 was designed by Panasonic. The lens glass elements themselves are Leica's. But how the lens is assembled to fit the elements, shutter mechanism, and OIS was designed by Panasonic. If that's what Panasonic brought to the table I'm perfectly happy.

I agree, the Q3 in both 28 and 43 is perfect for travel. The combination of some weather protection, fast aperture, relatively compact size/weight and high resolution along with a sharp optic makes it very versatile. For a one camera option, it’s tough to beat. I shoot a lot of film so I tend to carry a film camera alongside one but if I wanted just a single digital camera with top quality imagery then the Q3 would be my choice.

I totally agree! I bought the Q3 last year and had it with me as my only camera an a trip to france. Missed nothing, but cropped almost every picture. I like 40mm lenses and when the Q3 43 came out, I sold my Q3 and bought the 43. I am just back from my first travel with this camera and am really happy. Did hardly any cropping, maybe I should set the camera to a lower resolution to benefit from smaller files.. Anyway, I could live with either of this cameras as my only camera.

i could't do it with the q3 43 so i prefer the q3 28 and crop now and then.
