The focus throw is a bit longer comparable with the Noctilux f12. Which I actually really like. I had the 50/1.2 re-issue lend for a trip to Spain last year and really liked the focus throw. It’s a lot short, than the 50/1.0 Noctilux though, but perfectly precise. If it’s the same, than I think I need to grab one tomorrow.

I am sure if you like the look and feel and the rendering of the Noctilux f1.2, you will certainly love the Pre-ASPH. It might be my ultimate 50mm for all applications since it fits my style and I love the classic look.

The new one is only 17g heavier, than the 50/1.2 re-issue. I think it’s not too heavy.

I feel the new pre asph is a perfect balans of weight and size. As I wrote in my review it has the best characteristics of the three versions if only they would have copied the waffle design next to the lens release button…

I´ll have a play with one today and I´ll report back, if I took it with me.
fededuran Posted February 21 Share #28 Posted February 21 I really like this lens for portraiture, but -still- Leica "cheap" prices are too high to my taste. I hope LLL or CV come with their own versions of this one.
johnson184 Posted February 21 Share #29 Posted February 21 Lovely review! You have me very tempted to buy one but how would you say this compares to the Noctilux 1.2?

Cronilux Posted February 21 Share #31 Posted February 21 So, I am back home from the Leica Store and I didn’t bought the new pre ASPH Summulix. Simple reason was the focus throw. It’s just too long for my taste. It’s longer than the 50/1.0 and 50/1.2 Noctilux focus throw and these are already the maximum I am willing to accept. The positives, the lens is really compact without the hood and looks beautiful. The weight is great and balances just fine on my M10-R. The copy I had a little play in the aperture ring not between the clicks, but in the horizontal axis. That was definitely off.

Thanks! Yes in my opinion it really is, the CA is a bit better controlled on the Noctilux and the Noctilux has a bit more character and more glow, the Summilux is sharper and is better controlled. The Noctilux is more artistic but the Summilux is better as a daily driver but with a bit of vintage charm.

I love the new lens and like its longer focus throw and absolutely love the built quality. The aperture ring can always be tightened by Leica! tom0511 Posted February 21 Share #36 Posted February 21 Thank you Milan! I am torn between the Pre-asph Vers.3 and the new lens as an addition to my 50 apo, with more smoothness and character; You say the new Version sharpens up to a more modern look at f2.8. Would this also be the case for the Ver.3 in your opinion? Thank you!!

I must warn that I have seen some copies of the V3 with haze this would be less prominent with the new version. I would only go for the V3 if you can source a special version of it like the black paint version in all other cases I would go for the newer one. The v1 or v2 that's another look and have more pastel colors.
tom0511 Posted February 21 Share #38 Posted February 21 The first lens I used on my first M (M6 about 30 years ago) was a 50Lux either vers. 1 or 2 (don't remember) but I really liked this lens. The shorter min focus distance of Vers. 3 or the new lens would be appreciated though. Looking at prices of the older lenses the new version price sound fine, specially knowing its a new lens with guarantee etc. thank you again.
goldenbear Posted February 22 Share #39 Posted February 22 Just a fabulous review, with inspiring images. Thank you. I visited Leica SF Tuesday to handle both the Noct f1 and 1.2 reissue to accompany the black chrome Lux ASPH. I had, for the most part, resigned myself on waiting for a good f1 copy to become available….and now this shows up. I also own and use good copies of the Rigid and Summarit 1.5. What to do…
hkgmatt Posted February 22 Share #40 Posted February 22 Thank you for this wonderful review with poetic and intimate portraits, a beautiful illustration of what the lens is capable of. It would be exactly the lens I was looking for, but the review (and announcement) came a week too late - last week I pulled the trigger on a Summilux pre-ASPH V3 and a Noctilux f/1.
