andrewj Posted February 18 Share #1 Posted February 18 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've posted about this before, but thought I would revisit this. I have the Fotos app set so that "Geotagging" and "Date & Time sync" are always and on. This is with an iPhone. I keep hoping that firmware updates will fix this or maybe it was my camera itself that was an issue. Now I've noticed this problem on both the Q3 and the Q3 43. The time will be off by around 30 seconds (in one instance the camera is faster by about 40 s). On the other hand the GPS location gets transferred without an issue. (This is with firmware 3.0 in the Q3 43.) Anyone else having a similar issue?

M11 for me Posted February 18 Share #2 Posted February 18 Did you change from summer to winter time. This has still to be done. On my side anyway.
coleica Posted February 18 Share #3 Posted February 18 I gave up using the Fotos app trying to keep track of my location. Normally, a third party tracking up is used which is then synced with the pictures in Lightroom Classic. Frustrating to say the least. This is not new technology. It has been around for many years. I have problems understanding why these manufacturers just don't put a gps chip into their cameras.
PhotoCruiser Posted February 19 Share #4 Posted February 19 I don't have my Q2 with me, but Leica Fotos is working perfectly with my SL2 so i guessed that the early Geotagging problems with the Q2 was solved. I don't need to connect the camera with my iPhone, i just take pictures and the location is transferred. As i don't mind about a correct time stamp i never checked that, but will do in the future. It may be that coleica has a setup or software/firmware problem as this is what i understand andrewj sentence say that he has no problem with geotagging vor 21 Stunden schrieb andrewj: On the other hand the GPS location gets transferred without an issue. For geotagging a Bluetooth connection is sufficient, but for time synchronization you need a WiFi connection between phone and Q3. Weird design decision IMHO, I hope Leica will enable time sync via Bluetooth in the future.
hoolyproductions Posted February 19 Share #6 Posted February 19 Yes the time sync was very confusing to me - it took me a while to realise that it is only when connected to the app via wifi (and presumably only when using fotos to shoot remotely, I have not tested this). Not really an issue but when I change time zones I was perplexed why I had to manually reset the time despite having the time sync turned on. I agree that it is a weird design decision, but at least now I know the feature is essentially useless and just need to remember to reset manually. Regarding the above comment on location tracking, for me this has worked flawlessly on my SL2-S, Q3-43 and SL3 cameras (I did not have such a positive experience with e.g. the CL back in the day and gave up using it, but nowadays it works brilliantly).

Good, then i hope when i am back together with my Q2 that i load the last firmware update and geotagging will work as flawless as it does with my SL2. PhotoCruiser Posted February 19 Share #8 Posted February 19 Regarding the time sync problem, please report that directly to Leica as they will answer if it's possible or not. Use Leica Fotos, click on the gear symbol and then Feature Request and tell them about the encountered problem. Chris

Why geotagging and not time synchronization with Bluetooth is odd. Also why, when I connect with WiFi, does the time synchronization only when shooting remotely? Why couldn't the time sync right then and there, and the time change persist?

Chris My understanding is that Leica sees this as a feature, not a bug (meaning they did not intend the fotos app to completely overwrite the camera time settings, just punch the time on shots taken via the app). They could certainly explain it more clearly in the manual. Whilst there a handful of features I would like to see, this one I can live with

My preference would be to have the iPhone time override the time set in the camera since most likely the time in the iPhone is the most accurate time (and this allows for better synchronization with other photos taken at the same time). Or maybe Leica could give you the different options (phone time overriding the time in the camera v. leaving the time in the camera in place).
