Are Classic M6 non TTL prices coming down?

Hello everyone, I am sure there are folks here that have followed these prices longer than I have, I am seeing some almost new M6 .72 non TTL classics selling for under $3K USD on eBay. End of last year they felt like they were more in the $3.5K range.

I'm thinking that under $3K for a late model 9.8/10 M6 is pretty good considering cleanish 10-20 year older M4-P's are selling for about $2.2-2.5K. 

Any thoughts on where prices are trending?

In Europe,  Leica M4Ps eBay below 2K and non-TTL M6 around 2.5K. The 2022 M6 somewhat balances out the Market of used M6.

It's not so much prices are coming down as to why they went up, which I think was a result of the new M6 and this made $3.5K look cheap for a secondhand Classic. Now the hype has worn off and secondhand new M6 are in the system it naturally means the price for the Classic follows the trend downwards. eBay prices are a barometer but they are usually higher for what you get than from a dealer, so maybe knock off $250-500 for the real dealer value (and which come with a warranty).

If an M6 comes down to the price of an M4-P wouldn't you expect the M4-P to then come down and maintain the ratio? It is all driven by the lead camera in the supply chain which is the M6. Let's think of another example, if the prices of the most expensive secondhand Ferrari's came down wouldn't you expect it to be reflected by a fall in the lower end of the range?

Can I remind you that you made a distinction between 'non-special edition or rare', and that is what I'm talking about, cameras or cars that will inevitably attract depreciation as soon as it is sold, not a collectible or luxury item. Keep on the same page at least or you'll continue to shoot yourself in the foot, your point has nothing to do with 'non-collectible or rare'.

I think you are swapping cause and effect. Used M6 prices began to climb steeply well before the "new" M6.

About the time the last "practical canted-rewind" M (M7) was discontinued (2018) - reinforced by shortages of the MP/M-A during Leica's Covid shutdown.

WHEN Leica noticed what people would and were paying for "a classic M6," THEN they (re)introduced that camera style, in 2022.

I've only really been seriously following the prices for the last 6 months. Before then I knew a clean M6 body was about 1500-$2000 5 years ago.

So now I'm curious, how high did the prices spike 2-3 years ago?

Such a short timeline between 2018 and then Covid and then a new production line featuring new components by 2022 doesn’t make sense. They have not waved a magic wand to get the new M6 up and running, it has been long planned. Prices of secondhand M6 Classic and M7 have been going up since the introduction of the MP and M-A, and dragged up by the price of those new. It is cause and effect, you just aren’t looking back far enough.

If I lived in LA or NY I'm sure I would have a better grasp of what's going on in the US. I live in a small town on the edge of nowhere, 250 miles from a decent restaurant. I did however drive 5 hours to go see the Michael Kenna "Japan" show in Portland Oregon in December. That was fun!

Any insights into what's causing it? I've noticed decreased prices too. Also at least with my main official dealer I've noticed more new stock sitting around instead of being sold out. I'm assuming something along the lines of people are traveling less, economic issues, etc.

Consumer sentiment has turned slightly negative recently. People are also spending more on basic necessities and therefore have less available to spend on luxury items.

Given what the markets have done over the past couple of days and with what is happening at the top in DC, normal people, myself included, are concerned, worried and uncertain as to what may happen in the US and the world over the next 1-4 years.
