This is a higher RAW file than I get on my Leica D Lux 8 which captures at 17 megapixels from a 21 megapixel sensor. In addition, you got many more Leica Looks with the Lux app.

No it’s not. The D Lux has a four thirds sensor, which is way bigger than the sensor you find in a smartphone.
More pixels doesn’t mean more quality.

Yes, completely understand and agree in principle - in fact I’ve used Oly M43 cameras for years. But in practice, in decent light, the difference may not be that huge.

Actually more pixels can mean more quality. I’m planning an exhibition in Paris that will use large prints and there is a distinct difference between a photo from an S3 with a large medium format 60 megapixel sensor and the wee essentially 17 megapixel sensor in the D Lux 8.

The Lux app has a new artist look feature. The first is Greg Williams. The Leica publicity says, “The new Artist Look series puts the creative DNA of renowned photographers in your hands. The Artist Look by Greg Williams is the first in this limited series – crafted in collaboration with Greg himself.” Available to update on the App Store. You may need to refresh apps to update by pulling down on your avatar on the App Store app.

You can also now mark Looks as favourites to access them quickly and you can vote for new features.

But the S has an even bigger sensor.

Put it this way: you have a medium format camera with 60mp, an APS-C sensor with 60mp and a smartphone with 60mp. Which one will produce an overall better image?

Hello,

My LUX grip been working great until it does not turn on after full charge. I have tried a few things like plug in charging - no charing lights on; press shutter button - no LED; hold down shuttler and both FN button - no LED. Would you have any suggestions or experience on similar case? Thanks

The detailed Lux grip instruction manual does not mention a reset button or what to do in your situation. I think you are best contacting Leica. Your grip is under warranty.

Could someone kindly measure the dimensions of the Leica grip please?  I'm interested in one, having used the Fjorden grip, but the dimensions don't seem to be published anywhere.  Many thanks.

The base is 96mm wide and 58mm tall. The grip is 30mm in diameter and 75mm tall at the front end where it slopes down.

It appears that the leather case for the grip is now in stock (ref 18598). I just got mine. :)

Many thanks - that's very helpful. So it roughly like having my asthma inhaler strapped to the back of the iPhone, in size at least.  A bit of a squeeze in jeans' pockets then.

Just a quick tip — I found that a standard 1/4" D-ring mounting screw (the kind used for tripod/QR plates) fits perfectly in the Leica Grip case. (Plenty of choice on Amazon for about £5). It stays snug, allows for charging without removal, and adds a bit of convenience. Thought it might help others — photos attached!

Got my Grip about a week ago.

After pairing initially the Grip disconnects when not in use.

Took awhile to figure out that all you need to do is have the App open and press and hold the shutter release

down until you see reconnected on the screen.

My case is on backorder.

I am using a 14Pro and testing the pics against a Leica M 240 21mm 2.8 ASPH and Nikon Zf 24mm 2.8.

I have to reshoot the Leica M as I found even with 1/2 stop Auto Bracket the pics were underexposed.

I do not bracket with the Zf because the Matrix Metering has proved to be 100% accurate.

Because I have an extensive history of analog photography, I do not 'chimp' usually.

The M causes me the most exposure problems.

More to come.

Took my 14 Pro and LUX Grip to a Lucha Libre match.

We had front row seats.

The Grip was useless.

Set to Flash, the pre flash sequence and then shutter activation took a loooong time,

Capturing action was useless.

Turing OFF the flash was not better as my choice of 90mmm f1.5 yielded minimal depth of field and a slow shutter speed, again useless.

Using the 14 Pro on its own was better in the that shutter actuation was fast but a slow shutter speed rendered most exposures useless.

Next time I will use my Nikon Zf!
