Form over function.

Stainless steel was more difficult than anticipated, Leica hasn't produced stainless steel products since, I'm no metallurgist and am thinking it was difficult or impossible to attach lugs or stainless lugs.  It would be interesting to see prototypes.

Stainless Steel can be machined like any other metal with the right equipment/toolery.

I always looked at the M60 as a camera for investment purposes since it’s void of strap lugs...

Seriously?

You consider the presence or absence of strap-lugs to be an indicator of whether a camera should be viewed as a 'User' or an 'Investment'?

Anyhow; there are quite a number of members here who use their M60 cameras as their 'daily driver' so that says it all as far as I'm concerned.

You can just use them!

Another forum member is now enjoying No 035 as their EDC AFAIK based on their posts.

I have kept P17 😉

+1.

Absolutely loving it.

A geuninely lovely chap and fabulous company - if one gets a chance to share - and I really do mean that. "Salt of the Earth". Before he acquired #035, as it happens, he was using an M-D Typ-262....

Since I don’t like cases the absence of strap lugs is a deal breaker…🥸

So your own personal dislike of 'no-strap-lugs'(*) convinced you to believe that the M60 was never intended to actually be used by anyone who purchased the camera?

Why would you make that assumption?

Philip.

* Which, to make it perfectly clear, on a personal level I share.

It seemed the M60 was so beautiful and rare should be used as an investment rather than a workhorse…🤓

I guess the problem with this assumption is that many M60 owners (myself included) bought the cameras to use.  The original price, if compared to the list price of an M(240)-P and the 35 Summilux ASPH (FLE) was actually very reasonable.  The price fell within a relatively short period after release (I got mine at a discount).

It is a beautitful camera.  I always rather felt it should be used with the stainless steel Summilux (the best made Leica lens I’ve ever held), but that was a lens I genuinely disliked (and still do).

The lack of strap lugs never bothered me, I should add - just another quirk of the camera.

Too exotic and rich for me.
I’m glad so many are actually using the M60…😃

Yes - it was kept busy during a brief trip to Scotland last September and a 10-day trip to Venice last November. The accessory cover shoe managed to fall off and get lost about half-way through the Venice trip, but Wetzlar was able to conjure up an (expensive) replacement, and Leica Mayfair has tightened the shoe springs to make the cover more secure.

Being in my early 80s, I have been sheltering from cold weather since then, and have been busy writing a (non-photography) article for a magazine. But at the first signs of spring the Series 60 and I will be back in action. My M-D has been relegated to the role of being a reseve camera.

Where’s the FM forum…?

Just google and you should find it. It is mostly US based photographers, all brands. It has been around for a long time and was started by Fred Miranda.
