When I added a LLL 8-Element to compare to my  original Summicron 8E, I noticed Popflash also had hoods for it both by LLL and Squarehood. I like the effectiveness of rectangular hoods so I got  Squarehood model in silver to match the lens. To attach it you first screw an adapter ring into the filter thread, and the adapter has a channel machined so that it also fits over the outer edge of the lens lip. Then you orient the hood over the adapter, and when aligned right tighten set screws against the adapter on both sides. I'd have preferred 3 equally-spaced set screws for stability, but with care the 2-screw method works. When you want to remove the hood you can (if the set screws are tight enough) just unscrew the whole hood & adapter from the lens.

It has a rubber front hood cap that has a rounded lip you can orient to the top so you can see it in the VF to remind you the cap is on (mainly for meterless film models).

The hood seems very sturdy, I like the looks of it, and it seems effective without adding more vignetting. However the top corner isn't cut-out for the VF, and it seems more intrusive into the frame than the 12504. It might be less distracting in black for this reason.

Popflash notes it is an all aluminum replacement for the Leica 12524. They also have the LLL copy of the 12504

Shouldn't that part be light absorbing, so matte black?

I agree, but haven’t seen any ill effects yet - the angle of the surface must be a factor
