Will use this one! There are other proivders for color cards of course too. But myself has this one. Please stay tuned on WB. https://www.xrite.com/en/categories/calibration-profiling/colorchecker-classic-family/colorchecker-passport-photo-2

It would matter because getting it wrong adds another step to post processing. Making WB match between photos is time consuming if it’s inconsistent.

There are of course other ways to handle WB outside of AWB but great AWB is important to me.

AWB is too often not what I want, even if it is "correct." It is quick and easy to apply AWB in post to all imported images.

Sure and it’s better if the camera gets it right so no adjustments are needed. If you don’t want it to be “correct” then you’d be better not to use it rather than question why it has value.

I want it consistent and accurate.

In my experience, only manual WB can give consistent and accurate WB.

Fair enough. You had asked why it would be important to be consistent and accurate WB “except for jpg.”

You’ve then highlighted how handling it in post processing is fine by you and stated you don’t want it to be correct anyway. Now you’ve stated it can only be correct by handling manually.

I understand where you’re coming from. You mentioned it’s simple to adjust in post to match what you want and it’s simple to handle manually at time of shot. I prefer AWB be consistent and accurate by default and if I want something different than what I see, I’ll make adjustments. Two different approaches to get desired results. Both are fine.

To be clear, I often shoot with AWB and prefer it to be in the ballpark of accurate and consistent. Small differences, as discussed, do not matter to me.

The SL3 has better AWB and better WB than the SL2-S when a gray card is used. I had posted two DNGs shot with AWB in a thread that I can’t find anymore and in the link below are two pictures where the WB is set with a gray card. If one switches back and forth between the two, the difference in WB is evident.

yes. your images did show it! SL3 remains the master for studio photography. Did you try sports with SL3? Then we know, what we are talking about

@Chaemono was comparing SL3 with SL2-S and found SL3 to have better WB. He also assumes/hopes that SL3-S has better WB than SL2-S.

SL3 remains the master for studio. I am super sure! Anyway will run the callibration tomorrow with Passport Color Check Any Pro should use this IMO! Simple gray cards are not enough to get colours right!

In my initial observations, SL3 remains excellent for landscapes and all situations where the best Leica AF-C is not required.

Helge tried the SL3 for „sports“  and posted a series of pictures with mixed results of his dog running towards him.

A well known German sports photographer, Philipp Reinhard, said in a YouTube video when the SL3 came out that the SL3-S would be more suitable for shooting sports. He was promoting the SL3 for Leica and took it to Bangkok to explore „urban sports.“

I know Helge :) Trust me AF is much superior to SL3! Significant! But But But, it depends on lens! At least slow Lux 50 is much less pumping at real low light! New lenses are faaaaaast!

In the field a grey card to obtain a white balance is generally enough especially in the case of LED lighting!

I would be interested in a seeing if calibrated lighting imaged at the exact same color however in AWB!

It was good to receive my copy of the SL3S today. A surprise that a new CF 128 card arrived by courier one minute before the courier with my camera. Plenty of boxes to unbox (new packaging system) and then setting up via usb cable to phone was different. Cant remember how I managed the SL3. It will take a while but I am hoping to test the low light, high iso tonight when it cools off. There is a heat wave down here and temps went to 44 Celsius yesterday. I was out yesterday and managed a few shots with the SL3 but I am sure the camera didn't like being that hot. So far the SL3S has only been handled by white gloves. It's so clean.

The SL3 has more DR than the SL3-S even at high ISO based on Jono‘s ISO 12500 comparison. The advantage of the SL3-S at high ISO is then only exposure latitude.

How are you making that determination based upon the two photos shown at 12,500?

I have used my SL2-S loads of times in Qatar, Saudi and the UAE when ints 48degrees +
I have never encountered overheating or anything like that (although I have had screen protecters that curled up and peeled off)

I would certainly hope the SL3 series of cameras are up to the task.
