Deeetona Posted January 12 Share #1 Posted January 12 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) As I am about to pull the proverbial trigger on an M4, I am thinking about adding a cheap-ish travel lens to my new kit, and one with a silber barrel. Zeiss Planar ZM and Leica's11681 are on the shortlist. The 11681 seems to be the cheapest modern M lens - why is that so? In silver, combined with the lens shade, it looks a bit retro-gimmick-y, and like painted with silver paint from an Airfix kit, is that why "pros" have no love for it? Could be because its external design resembles a fish can. 😁😉🤪 Welcome, dear visitor! The predecessor f/2.5 Summarit-M was styled as a tip of the hat to the 1958 v.1 Summicron 8-element: far more retro - and attractive (to my eye) - and a dead match for an M4, chronologically and aesthetically. http://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/File:M-35f25-c.jpg http://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/File:M-35f2-i.jpg Otherwise the 35 Summarits are identical optically - and very good
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! lct Posted January 12 Share #5 Posted January 12 (edited) You may wish to consider the Skopar 50/2.2 if you're on a budget. Sharp, tiny, 0.5m MFD, less flare than the Summarit 50/2.5. One of the smaller if not the smaller M-mount 50. My experience is limited to the black variant but optics of the silver variant are the same AFAIK. Welcome, dear visitor!
