LeicaGuyUK Posted January 6 Share #1 Posted January 6 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I used to have a M240P, i completely wish i had kept it and trying to find one now is erm hard! I have been offered a M-E 240 boxed and mint. Really not sure which way to go. I do have the budget for an M10 but i think i prefer the shots i got out of my old M240P... I also have a Q3 so this is purely for an occasional M hopefully to keep costs down and then i can get some better glass Any opinions would be great Cheers,

If it is being offered for a good price and, as you say, you liked the files which your 240 provided then there's not really a down-your side to getting it. It is also - even in LeicaLand terms - quite a rare camera. According to the Leica-Wiki entry there were only 700 manufactured so from that point of view it might be a rather interesting thing to have. Save some money over the M10 and, as you mention, put that towards acquiring something nice in the Lens department. Good luck whichever way you decide to go. Philip. setuporg Posted January 6 Share #3 Posted January 6 As someone who recently got the M-P 240, after using Edition 60 and M246 for many years, I value the color rangefinder video that M240 and M-P 240 have that any other Leicas don't have. Depending on whether it's interesting or not, the M-E seems like a simplification. Also the buffer size?

Also the buffer size? 2gb on the M-E, its the same animal as the M240P alebit with some limitations on the grip (no gps etc).
hjddd Posted January 7 Share #5 Posted January 7 the covering of M-E 240 is natural letherette, it may need more care when handled for shooting
Doc83 Posted January 7 Share #6 Posted January 7 I feel fortunate to have found (Boston Leica store) and purchased a new Leica M-E Type 240 when it was first offered. Coming from an M6 TTL, it took some time getting used to it (e.g., size/weight, viewfinder, etc). Now, I'm not sure I would ever part with it as its grown on me and the EVF works well for architectural interiors using a Leica 21mm/3.4. New it was ~$4,000. Compared to a new M11 or M10 (used) today, the comparison numbers would be hard for me to justify. Put the savings towards a lens. The other attribute that makes it special for me (as mentioned) is there are only 700 in the world. Good luck with whatever decision you make. Really can't go wrong . . .
budrichard Posted February 9 Share #7 Posted February 9 Advertisement (gone after registration) I pre-ordered mine from Doug or Joel at Cameraland with a nice discount. I can never remember which does optics and which does cameras! It's a nice M coming from M3 to M6 to M7's all of which I still have and don't use. The M_E Type 240 biggest problems is that it has no electronic communication with anything other than through your storage card for updates. If you can live with that, then, go for it. -Richard
joshua56 Posted February 10 Share #8 Posted February 10 If you prefer the results you were getting with your old M240P, the offer for the M-E 240 mint could be an excellent option, especially if it is for casual use. Save your budget to invest in better optics, which will make a real difference. The main thing is that the device makes you want to shoot!
