Rich1 Posted January 2 Share #1 Posted January 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) For me, I want to try sadomasochism, to be tied to and forced to use one focal length at full frame only for at least a year, perhaps forever. I don’t like choice and don’t like baggage and sold my 501CM plus 5 lens for the Q3 43.
Advertisement Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Hi Rich1, Take a look here Why did you buy the Q3 43?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
keithlaban.co.uk Posted January 2 Share #2 Posted January 2 Simply because I had been waiting with bated breath for 10 years for a longer focal length Q to appear and when it did there was no excuse not to buy. 5
LocalHero1953 Posted January 2 Share #3 Posted January 2 I had the Q2 and liked the concept. The Q3 43 had the benefits of the Q3 28 (tilt screen, better sensor) plus a focal length that I prefer. The 'better sensor' for me meant better low light performance, nicer noise patterns. Better AF is a bonus, but is still not great.
Chris W Posted January 2 Share #4 Posted January 2 I really loved my Q1, but sold it because I struggled with 28mm as a set lens. I'd probably love the Q3 more if it was 35mm, but whenever it drops in price I might be tempted by the Q3 43. I quite often travel with only one lens. kiwibloke Posted January 2 Share #5 Posted January 2 Just purchased my first Leica, the Q3 43, but if hasn't arrived yet, but as soon as it does I will let you know why!
Ning Ning Posted January 2 Share #6 Posted January 2 Because I already have a Q2. 28mm + 43mm is a nice combination.
Olaf_ZG Posted January 2 Share #7 Posted January 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had to. I told the forum here that I would buy a q40/50, so when Leica finally made it… I had to. 7 1
reynoldsyoung Posted January 2 Share #8 Posted January 2 I had no choice…the camera brings the best of the Q series and nicely compliments my Q2M. 43mm forced the credit card out. Been waiting so long for that. 2
PeterCL Posted January 2 Share #9 Posted January 2 To simplify my photography world. Now I have one camera, uncomplicated physical layout, one incredible lens, a photographer's tilt screen, an easy to understand and navigate menu system, and easy to use User Profiles. Before: a camera with way too many options, an endless and complicated (and duplicative) menu system, and three primes; the net result was decision paralysis. And, given the cost of the 43, no more wasting time looking at and thinking about gear. 9
FlashGordonPhotography Posted January 2 Share #10 Posted January 2 1. I always liked the Q but couldn’t have the 28mm as my primary lens. I prefer not to crop. 2. My absolute favourite camera lens combo is the X2D with the 55V. The Q3-43 is the same basic field of view. So like a mini X2D. Since getting the Q3-43 my Q3-28 has become more used as well. Would REALLY like a Q3-90. Please Leica! Gordon

I am totally happy with the FL @28mm and for the odd occasion, crop. Like you I purged a few cameras and lenses over the years but enjoy the one camera fixed lens idea.
aficionados Posted January 2 Share #13 Posted January 2 Simply because there is a APO tag to it

I always loved 40mm. So when the Q3 43 came out I had to sell the Q3 and buy it...
satijntje Posted January 3 Share #15 Posted January 3 My main reasons are: 1. AF (reduced eyesight, so my M has found a new owner) 2. Size and weight (compared to my SL2 that is still in my possession) 3. APO glass (best possible lenses of all) 4. 43mm (90% of my old pics were taken with 50mm)
huwm Posted January 3 Share #16 Posted January 3 I went Q2 to Q3 to Q3 43 the 43 Focal length is just perfect for me
malbooth Posted January 4 Share #17 Posted January 4 I have the Q2 and the SL2 and SL3 and had the Q some years ago. (I will eventually sell the Q2 and SL2.) I have recently travelled pretty extensively with the SL3 (overseas and interstate), at first using the 50mm APO SL lens and then the lighter 50mm ASPH. The APO does deliver lovely images, but frankly I don't see a great deal of difference with the smaller, lighter SL 50. For me the Q3 43 is an ideal travelling camera. The image is so good and such a large file that you can crop in well and that saves taking a much larger, heavier lens. As it is also an APO, you can crop in virtually anywhere on the image without distortion or loss of resolution. I've put some images up on the Q3 43 images page doing just that to show this that were also taken behind a pretty dirty apartment window and you just cannot tell. So, for me the main reasons are: great light camera for travelling; I love the 43mm lens; the lens is an APO; the (DNG) files are simply amazing; and you can now charge it easily via a decent USB C cable. I don't mind the tilting screen on the back and have used it a couple of times already for high and low shots. It really is just a lovely camera to use and carry all day. 3

But not with 3 APO SL lenses. And there’s a difference in the hand. Gordon

Trade-offs, and individual preferences, as always. IQ from the zoom satisfies my SL2 shooting and print needs. The M system is home to my 28/35/50 primes. But the Q3-43 is admittedly tempting; just don’t like too many choices. And I think I’d miss a joystick and BBF.
