I personally am drawn to the format of the M-D. Sure, you can get largely the same results on a 262, or heck, even a 240, by simply not using the screen, barring certain aspects like setting the ISO that require it; but that is not the point. These cameras, M-D, M10-D, M11-D, fill a specific niche that not many cameras can. For the price of an M-D (if one every comes up 😢) you could get a newer generation M10 with better low light performance and a slimmer profile, but again these specs aren't everything, at least not to everyone.

A Leica digital with screen is a design I can’t deal with.  It would be too complicated and intrusive coming from years of shooting film…🎞️

A few months ago they were much cheaper…!

Ha, I don't trust eBay to be entirely accurate for market value of a niche model like this. The range is substantial and a collector willing to pay 7k for a mint copy because it's available now, isn't indicative of actual market value. I would also find it odd that the market would swing so much in such a short amount of time independently from the rest of the models. I have seen them go for as little as 4k up to around 7k. The extremes being rare, although, I feel 4k is reasonable considering that is ~40% premium over the standard 262.

A mint MD 262 is very, very rare!

The MD 262 is also a rare model.  Maybe 1500 units made…📷

Because of the rarity of these MD 262 models, especially one in mint condition can justify that high price…📷

I understand that, however, I have also seen them sell, recently, for in the 4s. The rarity adds to the "worth what someone will pay" aspect. That's quite a range in just a few months time.

The MD 262’s selling a few months back in the $4,000 range were pretty scratched, dented showing brass…📷

Does anyone have any information on the availability of bp-scl2 batteries? It seems they are out of stock everywhere. Are there any third-party batteries?

Given their small production run, M-D cameras are not easy to find, but individual examples do come onto the market from time to time. BP-SCL2 batteries are still available but must be ordered as a spare part. For some reason they seem to trickle out of Wetzlar rather than being easily available, so dealers will probably list them as being on back order. It's a subject that has been discussed on this forum in the past.

This is a trusted source? The site feels a little iffy at first glance. I can't tell if they are new or used.

I ordered one with PayPal so if it goes well will report back.
