Why do photographers want to make their digital images look like film anyway…?

A high end turntable, $5000+, will in fact reveal the separation of instruments in space unattainable by CD players…🎙️

A giga high end turntable, $500000+, will reveal said separation of instruments in hyperspace....

Do audiophiles (mostly people who cannot play an instrument or understand music) listed to sine waves on their expensive kit, just like Leicaphiles take photos of brick walls?

I play classical guitar so I don’t know…🥸

It’s possible to be an audiofile even if you play an instrument on conservatory level and understand some music. ☺️. But “the brick wall” is a nice touch in the dicussion. I believe it’s all a bit relative.

...So it all comes back to ‘mine is better than yours’?  Although there is the theory that what you do with it that counts...

Funny that you should mention that...

A few weeks ago we were having some friends over. When the first of them arrived and were being welcomed there was music playing (some piano sonata or other by Beethoven) and after a minute or so one of the guests - himself a classically-trained pianist - interrupted his own bit of chit-chatting to ask "Who is playing? They're very good!"...

My system is OK but hardly top-end audiophile quality but that didn't matter to him; only the actual performance mattered.

The very same situation exists, of course, in Photography.

Sorry, I just bought an as new used Leica MP so a €3000,- LP player has to wait some time.

Maybe another thought: I listened to classical music a lot. Heard some concerts of the same piece a hundred times or more life. The thing was, that a lot of the time, it was impossible to reveal the seperation of instruments. Would it be better to hear a recording or the same music on record?

Definitely, while using an appropriate turntable…🎙️

Yes, there are two types of listeners.
One who cares about the performance and the other about the sonics…🎙️

I believe that the two are not mutually exclusive!.....

🙂

Interesting to read that you play classical guitar. Although that isn't my 'style' I've been playing guitar - mainly electric - for 50 years and the same sort of discussions abound when discussing 'kit'. Some listeners don't care nor can hear the difference whereas some performers obsess over which brand of strings to play...

I took my first digital pictures in the mid to late 90s.
I didn't like the pictures and I hated the camera (DCS420).

The opposite with my first digital camera, the Leica Digilux 1 of my avatar. De gustibus... 😉

I understand
Around 10 years and lots of pixels between the cameras and on the calendar a new millennium has started.
Nice comparison.

When you write or play music, it is mostly about the music and not so much about sine waves on an oscilloscope made in Bohemia.

For me, playing a classical guitar with BRW back and sides is the pinnacle of sound one can achieve…🎙️

We'd better keep Braz. wood out of the thread as we could go down a very labyrinthine rabbit hole...

Again; the two topics of Cameras and Rosewood are not mutually exclusive...

Incidentally I've just checked and, happily, in 2019 CITIES reversed their well-intentioned but insane poorly thought-through decision to put every species and sub-species of Dalbergia on their 'Banned' list which caused SO many problems for manufacturers of musical instruments as well as the movements (pun) of those musicians who owned them.

Unfortunately Brazilian Rosewood is still banned. So getting an old guitar from overseas to Europe is still a drag.

I had to buy my Yamaha GC60 here in the states, it has solid BRW back and sides…🤓
