Stevegarza Posted December 24, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, I love my M11, but I have also been using a couple of Rollei TLRs as film is still attractive to me. I can't seem to find a decent (read: cheap) scanner for 6x6 negs. I thought about buying a cheap DSLR to do the scanning, but it doesn't make send to use a 15-20 megapixel camera to scan Medium format which I understand approximate closer to 50-70 MGs. Is anyone using an M11 for neg scanning? if so, what is your setup? What lens to use for scanning the square format?

I used either my M10r or M11 to scan my negs, starting with the film holder, there are variations depending on your budget, and i believe lead to the same outcome give or take i have been using the more budget alternative with essential film holder and a viltrox continuous as my light source, enough CRi for color films. While the lens i use nikkor micro 105mm f2.8 with M adapter, for a medium format negs, i suggest to have a longer focal length than a 50mm.
HRF Posted December 25, 2024 Share #3 Posted December 25, 2024 May I ask which Nikkor micro 105mm f2.8 do you use and what adapter? I looked on Ebay and found different models of the Nikor. Thx
jgeenen Posted December 27, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 27, 2024 I am using a Minolta MD Macro Rokkor 3.5/50mm that I attach with an K&F concept adaptor to the M11. Stopped down to f/8 it offers very good resolution including the corners. I have used it at 1:1 for 35mm film but I have no doubt that it would perform equally on 120 film. The improvements from a 20Mpix MFT camera (using a 30mm macro lens from Panasonic) scan to a 60 Mpix M11 scan are however marginal (I observed an increase of about 10-15% on resolution). For 35mm, I use a JJC duplication attachment that fits on the filter threads of the macro lens. This attachment is ok but not sealed against external (room) light sources which could result in uneven exposures and stray light. For 6x6, a sturdy macro stand would be required (it is a nightmare to level camera and negative holder and keeping the level - don't rely on tripods or cheap repro stands)
