When using my Leitz Summaron f2.8 / 35mm type M lens the M11 does not recognize this specific lens automatically nor when I enter the lens manually. The camera auto-defaults the lens type to 1.4 / 35mm. I don't know if this distinction affects (not impacts) a photograph or not. I'm thinking that, if anything, it may affect the frame lines. What do you think?

It’s perfectly normal that newer camera doesn’t recognize old lens coding, my m11 does that too.

It’s also normal that older camera doesn’t recognize newer lens coding, such that my m9 doesn’t know summilux 35 steel rim re-issue.

Frameline has nothing to do with lens recognition, either via coding or via manual selection. It’s 35mm lines, and always be 35mm because it’s a physical interaction not an electronic. No matter what lens you tell your camera is, it’s always 35mm frameline if mount a 35mm lens

There is no 6-bit code for Summaron 35/2.8 so you can enter manually the lens profile of Summilux or Summicron 35mm asph or pre-asph instead. Summilux 35mm pre-asph would be a good option as it vignettes the same way as the Summaron more or less. Auto-default to 35/1.4 may mean that the last lens profile you entered manually was a Summilux 35/1.4. Frame lines are the same with all 35mm M-mount lenses (35/135) and do not depend on 6-bit coding. Happy snaps 🙂
