stuny Posted December 20, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted December 20, 2024 The rubber surround of the eye level viewfinder has split and is partly swinging free in the breeze.
Marc B-C Posted December 20, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2024 Take it to a Leica store in NY for their view? IF you are of steady hand, perhaps a couple of drops of superglue? Upgrade to a Q3? 😀
markie linhart Posted December 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 20, 2024 The rubber surround cannot be replaced on its own, Leica will replace the complete EVF. How do I know this? I went through this exercise myself…✌️🇦🇺

I guess all the engineers over there went to the same university. 2
bobtodrick Posted December 20, 2024 Share #7 Posted December 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Me…I’d snip the little offending bit off and brag about my camera’s war wound and continue taking photos. 4
LocalHero1953 Posted December 20, 2024 Share #8 Posted December 20, 2024 I’d find a rubber O-ring of the right size and stretch and glue it into place.

I'd use contact cement. Coat both surfaces very lightly. Let them dry for 5 - 10 minutes depending on the glue's container instructions and then press together. Any glue that has squeezed out can be trimmer with a very sharp paring knife or razor blade. And you can still spin yarns about war wounds and having it repaired in the bazaar of some Middle Eastern war zone. Take you pick. And get an old Army field jacket to wear when shooting. It will add to the glamour. Yes! ;o) 3
keithlaban.co.uk Posted December 21, 2024 Share #10 Posted December 21, 2024 I'd just be happy with an EVF that was function over form and prevented stray light!

Yes it looks beautiful in design but unfortunately its a case of form over function.

You’d get the EVF replaced and, possibly, Leica would service it as well. It would be worth it - to me. If that’s not an option for you, my second choice would be to research the available glues and cements (as boojum suggests, above), prepare properly, and be bloody careful. Good luck 🤞🏼 👍

williamgm Posted December 23, 2024 Share #17 Posted December 23, 2024 So much for making things repairable; it's ridiculous that to replace a simple rubber surround the whole EVF has to be replaced, no doubt at huge cost.
