Einst_Stein Posted December 17, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Impressed by Thypoch 28mm lens on Leica M, now heard LLL is another highly regarded M mount lens maker. But it is hard to find, not listed on B&H. While Thypoch is not in the copy cat category, LLL specifically aimed to replicate classical Leica M lenses “as close as possible” with modern technology. Anyone has direct experience with LLL? If ipositive, where did you get it?
Advertisement Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Hi Einst_Stein, Take a look here Thypoch, now Light Lens Lab. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
GFW2-SCUSA Posted December 17, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2024 Popflash.com sells LLL in the US. Despite the slighty silly name, Popflash is a highly reputable company and easy to do business with. I have the 50mm SP II which is very well built and a fine lens. LLL has a good reputation overall.
Einst_Stein Posted December 17, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) I read review, saying it is so well copied that even the "characteristics" such as flare are similar to genuine Leica, which is not very desirable for today's taste. Do you see that? Edited December 17, 2024 by Einst_Stein
GFW2-SCUSA Posted December 17, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 17, 2024 I don't have the LLL 28mm so I can't comment on that.
TomB_tx Posted December 17, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 17, 2024 I have the LLL 35 8 element chrome on order from Popflash. I have the original Summicron too, and wanted to see how they compare. I'm especially interested in build and handling, where the 50s-60s Leitz lenses were amazing.

Thank you - your reviews are appreciated. Reading a review may get me to try a lens myself, but it takes first-hands-on experience for me to make up my mind about one. pippy Posted December 18, 2024 Share #7 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Beware of reading Al Brown's review; I did - several times over - and, happily, it ended up costing me a tidy sum of money......😸...... Seriously? The LLL 8-Element is one of the finest lenses I have ever used. Absolutely perfect in what it was intended to recreate. I'd like to acquire more of their output but, sadly, sanity still has a place in my brain and can counter GAS. Philip. Einst_Stein Posted December 18, 2024 Author Share #8 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) I am curious about its "CHINA MADE" on the lens. It uses traditional Chinese characters (usually used out of Mainland China, such as Hong Kong and Taiwan) instead of the simplified. I wonder what's behind that. Anyway, the chrome 35mm f2 collapsible looks interesting to me. I like the size, and it seems to be the cheapest too. We all admit the superior beauty in the form of traditional Chinese characters, so though we don’t use them in long text, they are actively used in graphic design. I don’t see any more special reasons behind it.

LLL impresses me with the quality of their offerings and the choices of lens types that they choose to make which are always quite tempting.
Einst_Stein Posted December 18, 2024 Author Share #13 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) I would be interested and wait when they offer the collapsible version. I want to see the collapsible 35mm, 50mm, and 90mm. And 28mm if possible. I understand dust could be a problem.
