stvn66 Posted December 8, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Do you think this a iiib to iiic upgrade? The mechanism is different and I have never seen this cap before as circled? Baseplate is also different without the normal screws. Thank you. Welcome, dear visitor! alan mcfall Posted December 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2024 I don’t think so. iiic is a whole different animal, diecast chassis, 1mm longer, and more. Only upgrade common, might have been flash sync.
jerzy Posted December 8, 2024 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2024 this is regular IIIb that, possibly in 1950/1960 received new bottom cover (lettering and double language is typical for this period). Bottom covers from this time do not have usually film cutting instructions, Leica was adding cover for mechanism with instruction plate on it. This what you see as cap is in reality the end of flat spring. Photo belows shows 2 IIIb, one from 1939 in original condition and the other that was in repair and received new bottom cover. Can I ask, will this make any difference to the camera's performance/value?
