msamiullah Posted December 3, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Folks, I recently sent my Leica S 007 for repair to Leica. The main issue was that the camera would freeze after operating for sometime and some times freeze on startup. I was surprised to see the repair invoice from Leica where quite a few things were repaired including: Adjust sensor position, Repair position sensor, Repair spirit level, Repair Wifi module, Repair microsd, Electronic autofocus and few other adjustments. However, all this was done on a goodwill basis and Leica did charge me anything. My camera is few years old, I bought it used and is definitely not under warranty. My question is why Leica would do such repairs at no cost ? I am not complaining but trying to understand the ethos of the company. Any insights on this ? Thanks, Sami

Pieter12 Posted December 3, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2024 Leica is a premium brand with a premium reputation that they need to maintain. Most times, they provide excellent customer service like the example you have cited. Sometimes it's the opposite--and so it goes.
ImmerDraussen Posted December 4, 2024 Share #3 Posted December 4, 2024 I had the same failure with my S007. I could drop my camera directly in Wetzlar and talk to the service. They explained that an internal SD is the issue and the whole main board needs to be replaced. The repair was also free of charge. I also got a new armor and even the top plate was replaced. Maybe the supplier of the mainboard is covering the cost. However, I was very pleased with the service.

Part of it is that Leica doesn't do partial repairs. I think they want to avoid a situation where a camera is claimed to be "recently service by Leica" when it wasn't. The other factor is that these repairs and adjustments are all required when you open the camera. The armor can't be re-used. The sensor position and AF need to be re-calibrated, the SD and Wifi modules are problematic and easy to service at that time, and the electronic spirit level needs to be re-zeroed. They also flash the firmware, even if you were already at the latest version.
davidmknoble Posted December 4, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 4, 2024 In addition, the S system is more common to have this. The CL system, probably not. In the Leica realm, the S system is the premium cost / service compared to their others. IMO

GMB Posted January 4 Share #8 Posted January 4 I had the same issue. Same solution. And very fast turnaround.
davidmknoble Posted January 9 Share #9 Posted January 9 BTW, they will sometimes do the same with a CLA to the S system lenses.
tom0511 Posted January 12 Share #10 Posted January 12 I think they know customers paid premium and the want to offer premium service therefore.
