My first M, was a m8. I upgraded it for a m9m. A great camera, except for its buffer. (And this was important to me when shooting portraits and very quickly changing oof area moving around). The m10m solved this. It also saw in the darkness.

But looking back, the m9m had the nicest feel to the images, with the sonnar or lux.

@LEGEND Better enjoy it, to me it is the best monochrom…

From the time I got her, on September last year, I shoot 95% only with MM.
My SL2-S is mostly behind the glass in my room.
Every time I get back from shooting M9M surprises me again and again...
She is pleasure to use and very rewording if you know how to use her properly.
I like the challenge and effort to make a photo that I want because everything
“Auto“ slowly became boring.

Somehow, I don't know why, cant get my self to shoot with my Summilux M 50 Asph. on
the M9M. I suspect it is because the base ISO of M9M is ISO320 and lux has f1.4 aperture.
On the bright sunny day even if I use orange 2x filter I still get shutter over 1/4000sec
and f4 for OK exposure. To me this is against a point of having Summilux 50 f1.4 Asph.
that is made for shooting open. That is the reason I use my Summicron M 50 (v3).
He delivers me very nice images that I like, lens is from 70is, vintage look and these
older lenses work very well on Leica M9M.

Probably I just imagine something about all this. It must be some kind of mental issue...
Now when is much less light perhaps I should glue my lux 50 on the M9M and just
go out and make some nice photos. This camera is pure inspiration for a photographer.
At least it is to me..

When using my 50mm f1.4 ASPH on my M10M at f1.4 and circumstances mean 1/4000 is insufficient, I'll stack an ND filter with the orange one.

Yes but does't that introduces some vignetting or flares when the lens is used at f1.4?
As I know the Summilux M 50 Asph. already start to show some vignetting if you
put one filter on him at f1,4.
At least these situations are not very often where I would need that...

If one feels that the desired result demands f1.4 then yes, but the vignetting can be addressed in post-processing.

I have the MM, but it mostly sits on the shelf since getting the M10M, which I find much more enjoyable (and flexible) to use. While I have and enjoy the 50 Summilux ASPH v1, I often prefer using a 50 Summicron v5 on it.  I only infrequently shoot wide open.

All of this gear is fully capable of making fine prints, if I do my job right. A lot comes down to the handling, quiet operation, ergonomics, and robust build quality for me.

Diff’rent strokes…

Jeff, if you don't use your MM for a while, remember to charge the batteries once in a while.

I had bad surprise when wanting to use my MM after many months of M246, the batteries (= 4 x14464) are weak.

Now recharging all 14464 seems to work.

I have seven Leica 14464 batteries for my MM. Although they are old, they are still functional. Some of them can deliver around 250–300 shots, which I consider good performance given their age.

However, I’ve encountered an issue with some of them when trying to charge. Occasionally, the green LED on the charger starts flickering, and sometimes the orange LED does as well. To get the battery to charge, I often have to "wiggle" it in the charger or remove and reinsert it. This doesn’t always work, but in about 70% of attempts, the battery eventually starts charging.

Thankfully, I have enough batteries to last for a few days of shooting. With my MM, I don't take too many photos at once, as I treat it more like an analog camera where I limit myself to about 36 shots per session.

I’m aware that third-party batteries for the Leica M9 are still available and relatively inexpensive. I may consider getting a few of those as backups for my MM in the future.
